10 All Time Top Scorers in France Ligue 1

Football knows neither language, nor tribe, nor creed nor nationality, it brings all together. The French man loves football as much as the English man. In this post, we’ll be seeing the “All-Time Top Scorers in French Ligue 1”. Ligue 1 is amongst the most popular leagues in Europe, though not quite as popular as the English Premier League or Spanish La Liga. Yet it has produced and still has some of the world’s best players.  The French League boasts the likes of Edison Cavani, Neymar, Balotelli, and Falcao just to name a few.

The France Ligue 1 started in 1932, and some players have distinguished themselves with their goal-scoring abilities. We shall be seeing 10 of these names.

Djibril Cisse 95 goals in 195 Games

The French forward is 36 years old, and he retired from football last year, after nursing injuries incessantly. At the moment he is a DJ and also a music producer. He, however, didn’t start like this. He started playing football at the age of 8. Cisse started his senior footballing career at French club Auxerre and he made his Ligue 1 debut at the age of 17 in 1999. He would score his first goal in the 2000/2001 season and a season later he would be the highest goal scorer in the League. Cisse would also play in Liverpool in the EPL. With 95 goals he’s #10 on our list of Ligue 1 top scorers.

Lilian Laslandes 95 goals in 316 Games

He started playing at the late age of 20, but this will not hamper his development. He played first for French side Saint Seurin. In the next season, he’ll move to Auxerre where he’ll score 47 goals in 125 matches. A move to premier league Sunderland will see him losing form which he’ll never fully recover from. Lilian Laslandes ended his football career in Nice in 2008. He’ll end with 95 league goals.

Alexandre Lacazette 100 goals in 203 Games

Lacazette is 26 years old and already he’s already on the list of Ligue 1 top scorers of all times. The very talented striker plies his trade in the English Premier League side Arsenal. He didn’t start there though. He was born in Lyon and there will he start his senior career, playing in the Lyon’s senior team from 2010-2017.

Mamaodu Niang 100 goals in 256 Games

Niang is a retired Senegalese player who plied his trade majorly in the France Ligue 1 and spent a few years in other leagues also. Mamaodu started playing professionally at the age of 18, in Troyes, a French Club. And he’ll remain in the French Ligue for 10 years before moving to Turkish club Fenerbahce, and then to Qatar, then back to Turkey. He’ll finally end his football career in Arles-Avignon. Altogether his career goals are 155 with 387 appearances, 100 of these goals were in French Ligue 1. He also played for the Teranga Lions of Senegal.

Andre-Pierre Gignac – 103 goals in 292 Games

This right-footed attacker is a French man by birth; he was born in Martigues France. At the moment he plays for the Mexican side Tiger UANL. And he hopes to complete his football career at the Mexican club. He obviously didn’t start playing in the Mexican league. He started his senior career in 2004 in Lorient in the French Ligue. He continued there until the year 2015 when he moved to the Mexican league. Andre Prierre Gignac also played for the French National team from 2009 till 2016, earning 36 caps and scoring 7 goals.

Edison Cavani 105 goal in 148 Games

This is the point man in Paris Saint-German, though he lost that role for a while when Neymar moved to the club from Barcelona. Neymar is injured at the moment and Cavani is back to his role as PSG point man. Edison Cavani plays for the Uruguay national team. Cavani started his football in Danubio, Uruguayan club. After two years he’ll move to Italian side Palermo and then Napoli before finally settling in Ligue 1. He’s been in Ligue 1 since 2013, and at the moment he’s the 5th amongst all-time Ligue 1 top scorers. He’s chasing Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s Ligue 1 record, and with time we’d expect that he’d surpass it.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic 113 goals in 122 games

Zlatan is a retired Swedish footballer, though he’s yet to retire from club football. Ibrahimovic is a striker and at the moment he plays for English Premier League Side Manchester United. He’s been regarded as a goal-scoring machine in many quarters.  He’s also known for his acrobatic abilities and strength. Zlatan  Ibrahimovic joined PSG in 2012 and he was there until 2016. He’s had a very interesting career, playing across some of the best clubs across Europe. In the times he spent in the French League he scored 113 goals.

Sonny Anderson 119 goals in 175 games

Sonny Anderson is a Brazillian, and as we know Brazil is known for producing some of the best players in the world. Anderson may not be one the level of De Lima Ronaldo or Neymar, but he is also a very prolific goal scorer. He started his football career in Brazil in 1988, and by 1994 he had joined a French League 1 club side.

Bafetimbi Gomis – 122 goals in 335 games

Bafetimbi is a French player; he plays for Galatasaray in the Turkish league at the moment. He started playing his football in Saint-Etienne, this was in 2004. He played in France from then until 2014, when he left Lyon for Swansea in England.  Gomis has 12 caps for the French National Team with 3 goals.

Pualeta 141 goals in 266 games

Pualeta is a Portuguese retired footballer. His full names are Pedro Miguel Carreiro Resendes, where the Pualeta comes from I don’t know. We will, however, call him Pauleta since that’s what everyone calls him. Pualeta started playing in Portugal, and it will take him ten years before he’ll move to a French club. Pauletta played in Bordeaux for three seasons and then his remaining five seasons were spent in PSG. And it was during these 8 years in French Ligue 1 that he amassed these goals.
