It appears to be a norm for private schools in Nigeria to be expensive and way beyond the reach of the average Nigerian. Some of the most expensive private universities in Nigeria have annual fees as high as 1.5 million Naira per annum.

In as much as most private universities in Nigeria are beyond the means of the average Nigerian, there are quite a number of private universities in Nigeria that can be afforded by the “not too rich in the society”.

If you are a financially average Nigerian and are interested in attending a private university, then this article is for you. It contains a list of the ten cheapest private universities in Nigeria and their fees.

Note that this list is compiled based on the metrics of affordable but quality education and learning conditions.

Toping this list is Oduduwa University, Ile-Ife

Oduduwa University, Ile-Ife

Oduduwa University Ile-Ife is located in Ile-Ife, Osun State. It was named after Oduduwa and was founded in 2009. It happens to be one of the cheapest private universities in Nigeria. It has four Colleges, they are College of Environmental Design and Management, College of Engineering and Technology, College of Natural and Applied Sciences and College of Management and Social Sciences.

Students of Oduduwa University Ile-Ife pay a fee of ₦164,000 which is the cheapest paid by a private university in Nigeria.

Obong University, Obong Ntak

Obong University is located in Obong Ntak, Akwa Ibom State. Prior to becoming a university, Obong University was known as African College of Medicine which was founded in 1997. The following year, it became the University of Africa.

Obong university currently has two faculties, they are Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences which offers degrees in Microbiology, Computer Science and Biochemistry and Faculty of Management and Social Sciences which offers degrees in Accounting, Economics, Sociology,Politcal Science and Public Administration.

Students of Obong University pay a yearly fee of ₦170,000.

Madonna University

Madonna University is a catholic university founded in 1999 by EMP Ede. It is the first catholic private university in West Africa. Madonna University has two campuses, one in Okija, Anambra state and one in Elele, Rivers state. The campus in Okija houses students of Madonna University that are studying engineering, engineering related and social science courses, while the Elele campus houses students studying medicine, nursing and other medicine related courses.

Caritas University

Caritas University is a private Catholic university located in Amorji-Nike, Enugu State. It gained approval to start functioning as a tertiary institution in 2004 and was officially established in 2005. Caritas University is owned by the owner of Madonna University, Father Ede and is the second established catholic private university in Nigeria. Students of Caritas University pay an annual school fees of ₦300,000.

Rhema University, Aba

Rhema University was founded by Living World Ministries International to make available Christian education at an academic level. It is a Christian university and was founded in 2009 and graduated its first set of students in September, 2014. Since then, it has graduated 3 sets of students.

Rhema university is located at 153/155 Aba-Owerri road. Prior to the establishment of Rhema University, the president of Living Word Ministries, started some primary and secondary schools across some states in Nigeria and even out of Nigeria.

Students of Rhema University pay an annual fee of ₦313,000.

Adeleke University, Ede

Adeleke university was established in 2011 and is located in Ede, Osun state. It is officially accredited by the National universities commission, Nigeria. Students of Adeleke University pay an annual school fees of ₦350,000. Although this is high compared to most public universities, it is one of the cheapest private universities.

Landmark University

Landmark university is a sister university to covenant university. It is located in Kwara state and is affiliated to living faith church. It was founded by Bishop David Oyedepo in 2011. He also doubles as the chancellor of this great institution of learning.

This university has four colleges which are College of Science and Engineering, College of Business and Social Science and the College of Agricultural Sciences.

Covenant University

Covenant University is one of the most famous private universities in Nigeria. It was established in October 22, 2002. It us owned by living faith chapel aka winners chapel and is located in Ota, Ogun state. Although it is not the most expensive university in Nigeria, it is one of the most prestigious. In 2015, Covenant University was awarded the best university in Nigeria.

Covenant University has Bishop David Oyedepo as its chancellor and its students pay a yearly fee of ₦432,000.

Ajayi Crowder University

Prior to becoming a university, Ajayi Crowder University existed as an institution of learning and was established in 1853. Over the years, it went through a series of changes until it became a university in 2005.

Students of Ajayi Crowder University pay a tuition fee of ₦500,000.

Caleb University

Founded by Prince Oladega Adebogun in 1986, Caleb University can be said to be one of the oldest private universities in Nigeria. It is located in Imota, Lagos. Caleb University started out as a primary school and moved to become a secondary school. It 2008, Caleb university was officially established.

Students of Caleb University pay a tuition fee of ₦505,000.

It is important to note that different courses in the same tertiary institution attract different fees. As a result of this, there is usually a range of fees obtainable from a particular university.

Therefore, the amount put into consideration in compiling this list is the average price of each university.
