1. Trump Threatens to Cancel Planned Davos Trip If Shutdown Continues
U.S. President, Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he will not go to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, later this month if the US government continued.
He said, “I intended to go and speak in front of the world financial community in Davos”.
He continued “That’s still on, but if the shutdown continues. I won’t go. I had planned to go; it’s been very successful when I went. “We have a great story to tell,”
The partial government shutdown, now in its 20th day was brought about by President Donald Trump’s refusal to pass funding measures without $5 billion for his “border wall” to wall off Mexico Read Here

2. Mother and Two Children Die on ‘Menstrual Exile’
According to the Nepalese Authorities, a 35 year old woman and her two young sons have died after the woman was sent off on exile from home as part of a Nepalese tradition in which women are made to live in far away huts during menstruation.
It was reported that they died of smoke inhalation from a small fire they kept to stay warm.
This Hindu tradition was outlawed in 2005 but continue in some remote areas of western Nepal.
Those who observe the tradition believe women staying at home during menstruation will make the gods angry and bring misfortune as they are impure.
3. Jaguar Land Rover to Sack 4,500 Workers
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced that it plans to sack about 4,500 workers globally. This is a part of a £2.5bn plan to reverse its losses.
The British company, which has about 44,000 members of staff in the UK with about 1,000 temporary workers, says it has been hit by falling sales in China, waning demand for diesel cars and Brexit uncertainty.
The company posted a £90m loss in October.
4. Congo’s Presidential Election Hit by Rigging Claims after Surprise Winner was Announced
A surprise winner has been announced in the Democratic Republic of Congo presidential elections amidst fears that the election was rigged.
The winner, Felix Tshisekedi celebrated even amidst allegations that the election was rigged.
The country’s main opposition party has joined countries like France, Belgium and the Catholic Church to cry out that the result was fraudulent.
Supporters of the opposition candidate, Martin Fayulu claimed the outgoing president, Joseph Kabila made a deal with the surprise winner to keep him out of office.
Two people reportedly died in the clashes that ensued.
5. Lady Gaga Pulls Her R Kelly Song
Lady Gaga has apologised for collaboration with R Kelly in 2013 following allegations of rape and sexual abuse that has trailed the singer.
Lady Gaga has promised to remove the song Do What U Want (With My Body), from streaming services, a track she recorded with the R&B Singer about 6 years ago in 2013.
She said the allegations against the singer were “absolutely horrifying and indefensible”.
She added, “I stand by anyone who has ever been the victim of sexual assault”.
6. Amazon Founder, Jeff Bezos and Wife to Divorce after 25 Years of Marriage
Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of US online retail store, Amazon and currently the world’s richest man, has taken to his twitter page to announce that he and his wife of 25 years are getting a divorce.
According to the twitter post, they decided to get a divorce after a long period of “loving exploration and trial separation”.
The post mentioned they expect to continue as partners in joint ventures and projects.
The couple got engaged after three months of dating and married three months of dating
They have four children.
7. No-deal Brexit Would be Disastrous, says UK minister
Britain’s business minister, Greg Clark on Thursday warned that crashing out of the European Union without an agreement could be disastrous for the country.
According to him, “a no-deal Brexit would be a disastrous situation in which we move to the most rudimentary terms of trade with our closest partners”.
He continued by saying that such a scenario would result in Britain being forced to trade with the EU on World Trade Organisation terms. He said that could mean much higher tariffs for some products like cars.
As things stand now, Britain might crash out without an agreement on March 29 if parliament doesn’t approve an agreement the government has struck with the EU.
Members of Parliament are set to vote on the agreement on Tuesday.
8. Zimbabwe Doctors Call Off Strike as Government Equips Hospitals
Doctors in Zimbabwe have ended their 40-day strike via which they demanded better pay and working conditions.
The government says the strike resulted in patients “unnecessarily” suffering and some dying.
Patients and health workers said they were glad to see doctors back to work on Thursday.

9. Kim Jong Un Leaves China
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has headed home after visiting China this week.
Neither Pyongyang nor Beijing has given details about the Kim visit, which comes amidst preparations for a possible second summit between Kim and U.S. President Donald Trump.
However, speculations abound that the North Korean Kim may be hoping to use his visit to increase his leverage with Washington.

10. Japan Should Take ‘More Humble’ Attitude, Says South Korea’s President
Japan should take a “more humble” attitude towards the past, South Korean President, Moon Jae-in has said on Thursday.
He spoke with relations to their capitalist democracies long strained by disputes over history and territory.
According to President Moon, “the issues largely stem from Japan’s brutal 1910-1945 colonial rule over the Korean peninsula”
He said he thinks the Japanese government should take a more humble attitude… but the Japanese politicians are politicising the issue.”
