What do you do as a manager, when your best player goes on strike in a bid to force his way out of the club? That is exactly the situation in which Slaven Bilic finds himself.
West Ham United manager, Slaven Bilic, says he is betrayed and angry over Dimitri Payet’s refusal to play for London based club.
Dimitri Payet has certainly paid his dues for West Ham. The French midfielder had a stunning last season; one in which he was selected in the Premier League team of the season as well as featuring prominently in the Euro 2016 championship for France.
However, Payet is said to be fed up with life in London is doing everything possible to push through a move away from West Ham. Payet’s actions are buoyed by the numerous speculations linking him with a move away from the Hammers.
However, Payet’s manager, Slaven Bilic is not keen on letting the midfielder (who has a contract with the club untill 2021) leave without a fight.
Reports say, a big money move to China is in the cards, while Premier League sides like Arsenal and Manchester United are closely monitoring the Frenchman’s situation – Payet has an asking price of £40 million, that price could be higher if West Ham put their foot down.
According to Bilic, Payet will play no part in the game against Crystal Palace this weekend. Bilic is quoted as saying:
“Let’s get serious, I have a situation with a player. It is Dimitri Payet. He wants to leave.”
“This team, the staff, we gave him everything, we were always there for him. I feel let down. I feel angry.
“We have said we don’t want to sell our best players but [Payet] does not want to play for us. We are not going to sell him.
“I spoke to the chairman and this is not a money issue. We gave him a long contract because we want him to stay.
“I am concentrated on the game and don’t want to talk about transfers. There are still over two weeks to go.
“I expect from him to come back and to show commitment and determination to the team like the team has shown to him.”
Dimitri Payet is considered to be one of the best attacking midfielders in the Premier League. This season, he has scored twice and provided 13 assists for West Ham.
