The Presidency has expressed delight at the withdrawal of one of four petitions challenging the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari in the February 2019 election.
Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity in a statement said that the Presidency commended the Coalition for Change (C4C) following the withdrawal of its case through its lawyer, at the resumed hearing before the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal on Monday, saying it is a sign of true patriotism. By accepting defeat with grace.
“The C4C has chosen to prioritize the stability of our country and the voice of the people.
“Victory and defeat are part of elections. For some in the opposition, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC is good, when they win. Where they lose, INEC is unreliable.’
While noting that the challenges facing the nation are huge and we need all hands on deck, She said the electorates have chosen President Muhammadu Buhari to lead them, urging all stakeholders should deploy their energy towards supporting his efforts.
Other petition against President Buhari’s reelection is from the Hope Democratic Party (HDP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Presidential Tribunal struck out the 3rd Petition filled by Coalition for Change following their withdrawal while the first petition filled by HDP is adjourned to 13th of June due to counter motions and internal rancour displayed by the Party and its Candidate’s representatives.
The Tribunal adjourned to Tuesday, June 11, 2019, by 9:30 Am.

It could be recalled that Justice Mohammed Garba has been appointed to replace Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa as the chairman of the 2019 Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.
Until his appointment, he was presiding Judge of the Lagos State Division of the Court of Appeal. The Tribunal is currently in session.
