2019 Governorship and State Assembly Election: INEC to use uniform timing and smart card readers

– INEC disclosed it would make use of a uniform timing during the 2019 Governorship and State Assembly Election

– It also disclosed that smart card readers will be available at various polling units

– INEC disclosed that zero votes will be recorded at any polling unit where the smart card readers are not used

As Nigerians prepare for the 2019 Governorship and State Assembly elections, the country’s electoral body, Independent National Electoral Commission INEC in a new statement has disclosed it readiness for the election.

The Electoral body in a statement released by National Commissioner in charge of Enugu/Anambra and Benue States, Mr. Festus Okoye, disclosed it wants to make use of a uniform timing during the election, he disclosed that the election will commence by 8 am at every polling units across the federation.

Mr. Okoye in his statement in Enugu state made it known that smart card readers will be deployed to every part of the country, he hinted that any polling units where the smart card readers are not used will be recorded zero vote.

He also disclosed that the electoral body is ready to carry out a credible, free and fair election.

Mr. Festus Okoye in his statement said: “This time around, we want to ensure that each polling unit in the federation starts the process at 8 a.m. dot on the day of the elections.

“So we want to make sure that all our ad-hoc staff and materials got to the polling units before 7.30 a.m.

“And the usage of the smart card readers will be universal in all the polling units.

“Any polling unit where the people or political thugs did not allow the presiding officer to use the smart card reader will get zero votes.”

The electoral body also urged Nigerians to move out in their numbers to exercise their franchise on Saturday.
