22-Year-Old Re-Arrested Man Explains How He Previously Escaped From Delta State Prison

A 22-year-old herder identified as Ibrahim Umaru has revealed how he escaped from a prison in Delta State.

According to a series of report from various sources, Ibrahim Umaru escaped from prison last year (2018) and went to Zamfara State, where he joined a gang of bandits whose specialities are cattle rustling and razing down neighbouring communities.

After going on numerous operations with his gang of bandits, Ibrahim Umaru was again rearrested after he led members of his gang to rob a filling station in Asaba, Delta State. It was also gathered that an AK-47 rifle was recovered from him while during the raid.

The Police source also stated that the gang in which Umaru belonged to had previously killed numerous people in Zamfara state. He also made it clear that the gang was led by Buhari Daji who has been killed.

A police source stated as follows:

 “Umaru was first arrested in 2014 when policemen on patrol accosted him after he took some cows for grazing. The policemen searched and found a gun on him.

He was taken to court, where he was charged for illegal possession of firearm. He was sentenced to five years in prison, but later escaped and fled to his home town and later joined a cattle rustling syndicate.

Umaru took part in several robberies, cattle rustling and kidnapping activities in Zamfara State before returning to Asaba Delta State with an AK-47 rifle which he started using to terrorise residents and business owners in Asaba Delta State.”

After Ibrahim Umaru had been apprehended, he said that he escaped from the Delta state prison premises when he was taken out to cut grass. From his statement, he was not wearing his prison vest, so he took full advantage of that opportunity and escaped.
