6 Players to Watch Out for in the 2018 World Cup

Very few things bring the world together more than football. The FIFA world cup is just in a few months time, and all football fans world over, are anticipating the commencement of the soccer fiesta. First things first, if your country did not qualify, sorry, accept my sympathy, you know I have been there before, and I know exactly how you feel. Lol, hope you don’t believe me because I really don’t care that your country did not qualify. However, you can come cheer the Super Eagles to victory, have you seen our kits, men that’s enough reason to cheer a team.

Today isn’t a day for kits though; we’ll be talking about players to watch out for at the FIFA world cup in Russia this year’s June.  You won’t be seeing the likes of C.Ronaldo, Messi and Suarez in this list because we everyone knows who they are. So here’s our list of ten players to watch out for at the world cup.

Mohammed Salah

In no particular order, the first on our list is Mo.Salah. The Egyptian international of one of Liverpool’s most important forwards.  He joined Liverpool in June 2017, and in less than one season at the club, he already has a first-team shirt. He is also as at now the highest in the EPL and in European top-flight clubs at the moment. Mo’s involvement with the Egyptian national team was very crucial to their qualifying for the 2018 world cup. He scored the two goals in their won over Congo, thus grabbing three points and qualifying for the world cup. The Pharaoh’s of Egypt haven’t been at the world cup since Mexico 90’. We look forward to seeing Mo.Salah dazzle at the world cup.

David De Gea

David De Gea is arguably the best goalkeeper in the world and he has been touted to replace Iker Casillas as Spain’s first choice goalkeeper. De Gea has been compared to Edwin Van Der Sar and Peter Schimdt. These guys I just mentioned are Man United legends. This season, he’s been phenomenal, pulling off almost unimaginable saves for Manchester United. A lot of times he’s kept Manchester United in games when the team wasn’t doing so well. In the previous world cup, he was the third choice goalkeeper. This year, however, he’ll be in goal, and we can’t wait to see him perform at the world cup.

Sadio Mane

Sadio Mane is another lethal forward who plies his trade in the English Premier League. He’s M. Salah’s “partner in crime”. And together they’ve won many a victory for Liverpool. The 25-year-old Senegalese joined Liverpool from South Hampton in 2016. The winger already has a first team shirt in Senegal; however, he’s not been to the world cup. He’s another player we can’t wait to play at the world cup.

Marcus Rashford

Rashford’s performance in Manchester United has been very inspiring. So much so that some people are beginning to give Mourinho hard knocks for allegedly underplaying him. At his young age, his made history already by being the youngest player to score at a Manchester Derby. This was in 2016, at the young age of 18. He is also the youngest player ever to play for England at a European Championships and the youngest Englishman to score on his international debut. So we can see that this young man is a bundle of talent. However, the 20-year-old has not started for Man United since December 26, 2017, until their last match against Liverpool in March 2018. The match ended 2 – 1 in favour of the red devils and M. Rashford scored the two goals.  Rashford scored his first goal for the English senior team in September 2017. We look forward to seeing him perform some more magic at the world cup in Russia this June.

Kylian Mbappe

At the age of 19, this french youngster is already playing top flight football both in PSG and in his national team colours. He’s been compared to French Legend Thierry Henry in terms of talent and skill. Though some think it’s too early to make such a comparison. Mbappe made his senior team debut in Monaco sometime in 2016, at the moment though he’s on loan at PSG. The French forward has had 10 appearances for the French national team. These appearances were during world cup qualification. This young man will be another person to look out for during the FIFA world cup in Russia.

Joshua Kimmich

This German international is the only defender on our list. He currently plies his trade in
Bayern Munich where he plays the right back position.  Joshua Kimmich is a very versatile player and can play not only the right back but as a central midfielder. The 23-year-old German already has a place in the defence line the German Machines. And he was very instrumental in helping Germany get to the semi-finals in Euro 2016. As far as defenders at the world cup are concerned, Kimmich is another man to look out for. And we can’t wait until June for the world cup to start so that we can see him play in German colours again.

This is by no means an exhaustive list of players to look out for at the world cup, but these are the ones that have caught our attention for now. Let us know of other players you’d like to see at the world cup.
