9th Assembly: Senate President Ahmed Lawan names principal officers

  • The Principal Officers Aare expected to assign senators to committees based on interest earlier shown by them.
  • Lawan reads names nominated by APC and PDP.

Senate President  Ahmad Lawan has announced the list of principal officers sent to him by the leadership of the All Progressives Party (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Lawan who named the principal officer at the resumption of plenary announced Senator Abdullahi Yahaya as Senate Leader and Ajayi Boroffice as his deputy.

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe and Phillip Aduda were named as  Minority Leader and Minority Whip respectively.

Senator Emmanuel Bwacha was named as the Deputy Leader and Senator Shabi Yau as the Deputy Whip.

The senators, who would form the Body of Principal Officers also known as Selection Committee are expected to assign senators to committees based on interest earlier shown by them.

In their separate acceptance speeches, Yahaya and Abaribe promised to discharge their duties effectively.

The Senate President later presided over the swearing in of the appointed principal officers.

Senator Mohammed Sani Musa who was declared by the Supreme Court as the authentic winner of the APC primary election is representing Niger East Senatorial District.

Senator Abdullahi Yahaya is representing Kebbi North senatorial district.

Eyyinnay Abaribe is from Abia-South Senatorial District while Phillip Aduda is from the FCE senatorial district.

Emmanuel Bwacha is from Taraba South constituency while Shabi Yau is from Zamfara North district.
