Afenifere to Osinbajo: Go And Re-read Awolowo And His Legacies, Stop Debasing Him
- Afenifere says late Awolowo would have almost sued Osinbajo for defamation of character if he was alive.
- Tells VP to go re-read about former Nigerian leader.
Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere has told Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to stop debasing the legacies of Chief Obafemi Awolowo by linking the sage to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Afenifere gave the charge in its reaction to claims made earlier that day in Ekiti State by Osinbajo that the APC was Chief Awolowo’s party.
The group in a statement by its spokesman, Yinka Odumakin, urged young Nigerians who did not know Chief Awolowo not to “accept the untruth that what we have on ground today was what Awo represented.”

He further stated that Osinbajo was being apostate when he claimed APC belongs to Awo, adding that the former Nigerian leader must have turned in his grave to hear such debasement of what he stood for – his legacies.
“How can a party that does not accept that Nigeria should be returned to federalism be linked toAwo? Would Awo be promoting sectionalism and exclusive government the way APC is doing with sensitive appointments and promotion of Ruga which they just rechristened? Would Awo run a country that is the global secretariat of poverty? Would a man of Awo’s understanding allow Miyetti Allah members to be wielding AK47s all over the country unhinged?,’ he queried.

Afenifere, therefore, advised the Vice President to go and re-read Awo and his legacies before maligning him again.
“If Papa was alive, he would have almost sued for defamation of character.
“Young people who didn’t know Awo should not accept the untruth that what we have on ground today was what Awo represented,” Afenifere said.
