Alex Ferguson Pays Tribute To Arsene Wenger

Manchester United legendary gaffer, Sir Alex Ferguson showed how well he rated former Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger after paying a special tribute to the French man.

Both managers crossed swords several times during their careers with United and Arsenal.

The duo dominated England’s top-flight in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

The rivalry between both clubs and managers over that period resulted into several bust-ups, including what became known as ‘Pizzagate’, when the former United boss was struck in the face by a slice of pizza in the tunnel after his Manchester United side ended the Gunner’s 49-game unbeaten run.

However, while Ferguson addressed his old rival via video at the annual Nordoff Robbins charity award dinner, he expressed his admiration for him.

The Scot said:

“The career you had as a manager at Arsenal was absolutely fantastic – an absolute legend.

“I loved the competition against you. We had some great times and it’s wonderful you’re getting this award tonight. So good luck, my blessing with you.”

Arsene Wenger was awarded the ‘Legend of football’ prize at the event, celebrating his long tenure at the helm of affairs at the Emirates Stadium.

The former Arsenal boss spent 21 successful year at the North London club before making way for Unai Emery.

In this period, Wenger guided the Gunners three Premier League titles, seven FA Cups and seven Community Shields.

Ferguson on several occasions sent jibes the way of the former Monaco boss, including once when he referred to him as a novice.

“He’s a novice. He should keep his opinions to Japanese football”, he said.

The former Arsenal boss too was found guilty of doing the same to his old rival on several occasions, including insisting he would never speak to him again.
