Alleged Drug Trafficking: Nigeria Secures Release of Aliyu in Saudi Arabia

  • Aliyu got released after proving her innocence.
  • Ibrahim Abubakir will also be released tomorrow.

The Federal Government has secured the release of an alleged drug trafficker, Zainab Aliyu, who was detained in Saudi Arabia.

The federal government further secured the release of another Nigeria, Ibrahim Abubakir, who will be released tomorrow, the office of Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed.

iDONSABI reports that President Muhammadu Buhari had directed the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami to do all necessary to ensure Aliyu’s release after it was reported that she is innocent of the crime.

Aliyu’s release was also confirmed via Twitter handle of Bashir Ahmad, Personal Assistant to President, Muhammadu Buhari on New Media.

“The Federal Government has secured the release of Zainab Habibu Aliyu who was arrested in Saudi Arabia for alleged drug trafficking. Details soon from Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” he wrote.

As directed by Mr President, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice’s office worked yesterday with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abike Dabiri’s office, as well as National Hajj Commission of Nigeria and other relevant agencies in that regard and thus, secured her release.

Many Nigerians have been executed by the Saudi Arabian Authority after proving that they brought in drugs into their country which is punishable by death.
