President Muhammed Buhari was infuriated by the refusal of Ogun State governor, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun; Imo State governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha; and Zamfara State governor, Abdulaziz Yari, to accept the solution to the crisis over the selection of governorship candidates in their respective states.
The three governors had visited the President in order to support their bid against the National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomole. The President refused their requests and asked them to sacrifice some of their ambitions for the sake of peace in their states.
Buhari was provoked at their insistence on having their way despite his intervention on the Anti-Oshiomole plot, and referred them to the latter on the grounds that he is in charge of the party affairs.
According to an unnamed source who was privy to the outcome of the meeting, President Buhari had asked Rochas Okorocha to shelf his senatorial ambition in the interest of his governorship candidate.
Also on the issue, Amosun was given a solution that would result in a win-win situation for all concerned parties. Their failure to get the President’s endorsement resulted in their failure to mobilize APC Governors against Oshiomole in Abuja.
Gov. El-Rufai and Gov. Bello Refused To Join Anti-Oshiomole Plot
According to the source, the plot was to use Rochas’s influence as the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Gov. Yari’s influence as the Chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum, to garner the support of the other governors. An Insider revealed that Okorocha and Amosun failed to gain the support of El-Rufai and Bello through telephone conversation.
Bello was reported to have told Gov. Okorocha that he had absolute loyalty for the President and would not pitch his tent against Oshiomole. Gov. El-Rufai was also reported to have them not to speak to him about the issue again.
