Antoine Griezmann Apologizes To Barcelona In Hopes Of Rekindling Club Interest

Antoine Griezmann has reportedly apologized to Catalan giants, Barcelona for refusing to honour a move to Camp Nou last summer in the hope that the Laliga leaders will reignite their interests in him ahead of the 2019/2019 campaign.

The Frenchman and Atletico Madrid forward was heavily linked with a move to the Spanish giants in last summer’s transfer window with the Blaugranas believed to have worked on a deal for the France International for close to one year.

That said, the 28-yr-old announced before the 2018 World Cup that he would be signing a new contract with Atletico Madrid, one that would make him the fifth highest paid footballer in Europe.

However, recent loss to Juventus in their round of 16 tie has seemingly contributed to a change of heart for the attacker.

Barcelona haven’t shown any recent interests in Griezmann but representatives of the former Real Sociedad man are hopeful that the apologies might attract another interest in the player.

Barcelona are reportedly in search for a potential replacement for ageing Luis Suarez and could look to Griezmann as an immediate replacement or competition for the central striker position.

Meanwhile, it is reported that the release clause of the striker would now drop by almost £70m putting many elite European clubs on the lookout.

The 28-yr-old’s release clause stands at £171m when he signed a new deal with Atletico Madrid which could see him remain in the club till the summer of 2023.

However, it is gathered by AS that Griezmann insisted that the club reduced the release clause to a sum of £103m as of the 1st of July, 2019.

Barcelona are not the only ones considering a move for the World Cup winner. Manchester United are also reportedly hopeful that the presence of International teammates in Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial at the club might prise a move to Old Trafford for Antoine.
