– APC also told regulatory bodies in the building and construction industry what to do

The ruling party at the Federal Level, the All Progressive Congress APC has reacted to the tragedy that took place at Ita Faaji Lagos Island yesterday, where a three-storeyed building housing a school collapsed.

According to the reports, the incident left many dead with many pupils trapped in the building.

The APC in a statement via it national publicity secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa Onilu  in Abuja discribed the Wednesday building collapse at Ita Faaji Lagos Island as avoidable.

Mallam Lanre Issa Onilu in his statement went on to ask various regulatory bodies in the building and construction industry to ensure that required standards are met before approval of building are given in order to prevent building collapse in the country.

The APC in it statement expressed it shock and deep sadness by the Wednesday’s collapse of the building housing a school and residential units in Itafaaji area of Lagos State which led to several deaths and injuries, particularly among children.

Below is an extract from the statement released by the APC,

When we lose our loved ones, it is never easy, particularly when they are children lost to such horrific and avoidable building collapse.

“We sympathise with the families of the dead victims and pray for the speedy and full recovery of the injured. We also pray for the safe rescue of those still reportedly trapped in the collapsed building rubble.

“While we commiserate with the government and people of Lagos state over the sad incident, the party is worried that the frequency of these building collapse and its attendant human casualties has become abnormal. Relevant regulatory authorities across the country must do all that is necessary to prevent a reoccurrence of these avoidable building collapses.”
