Arsenal Throw Away Two-Goal Lead To Watford

Arsenal surrendered a two goal lead, earned through some beautiful attacking play to share the spoils with a determined Watford side.

Watford put up a convincing display that suggests they might soon climb out of the bottom three and beyond.

They should have sealed it in injury time with Abdoulaye Doucoure sidefooting into Arsenal goalie, Bernd Leno’s arms in the first game since Javi Garcia was dismissed.

Arsenal were heavily determined to play out from the back but the man who was charged with this responsibility in David Luiz buckled and gave up a penalty.

Watford were undoubtedly the better side in the first forty-five minutes but the efficacy of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang seemed to be the difference.

The Gabonese gave the Gunners the lead in spite of Watford’s call for a foul in the build-up to the goal.

The Gunners lead was then halved in the 53rd minute when Tom Cleverley caught Sokratis while he was playing out from the back.

They then shot themselves in the foot once again after a horrendous defending from former Chelsea man, David Luiz. The Brazilian tried substitute Roberto Pereyra and the midfielder beautifully dispatched it into the net.

This was Watford’s second point of the season and they had gotten it on a golden platter after familiar chaotic scenes at Arsenal’s back.

The Gunners had been threatening to give away a goal as they sought to play out from the back and they did get punished for that.

For the North London club, it’s three Premier League games without a win wne their wins against Burnley and Newcastle United now seem so long ago.

As revealed by Opta, the North London club’s players have made a combined 14 errors leading to opposition goals in England’s top-flight since the start of last season, at least two more than any other club in this time. Their defensive line have been absolute shambles and they do not seem deserving of a top six side.
