Atiku Abubakar Reacts to APC Claim That He is not a Nigerian

Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to a claim by the All Progressive Peoples Congress (APC) that he is not a Nigerian.

Following the the petition of the APC by Atiku Abubakar over the outcome of the 2019 presidential elections, the APC responded by saying that the APC candidate is not a Nigerian and therefore ineligible for the presidential elections in the first place.

The ruling party further stated that Atiku Abubakar who is a former Vice President is a Cameroonian and not a Nigerian citizen and his petition against Muhammadu Buhari, candidate of the APC, should be dismissed for lacking in merit.

In reaction to the claim by the APC, Atiku described the claim as simply “idiotic”. Atiku reacted through his media aide, Paul Ibe on Friday (April 12 2019)

He stated:

that is idiotic. It is idiotic. And it is ridiculous. Atiku Abubakar is a former Vice President of Nigeria. Are they telling us that a former Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is not a Nigerian? That is disrespectful to Nigerians and for the office he has held, which other people will hold and will continue to hold. Everything must not be on the alter of politics.
