Atletico Madrid Send Barcelona Packing Out Of The Spanish Copa

It was a gruelling game between two Spanish giants, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid as they battled for supremacy and a date with Real Madrid in the finals of the Supercopa. It was so intense that even the omnipresent Lionel Messi couldn’t sway the game in favour of the Blaugranas.

In fact, Diego Simeone’s Madrid came from behind to record an emphatic win over the hosts at the Camp Nou.

After a goalless first forty-five minutes, both charges came out lit and firing on all cylinders. The half was highlighted by a number of cards and two disallowed goals.

Madrid midfielder, Koke scored only few minutes after his introduction. However, goals from Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann put the Blaugranas in charge of the proceedings at the Camp Nou.

A penalty conversion by Atletico Madrid and a late goal by Andrea Correa were all that Simeone’s men needed to edge out Barcelona.

The mammoth crowd were solidly behind Messi and they screamed at the top of their voices whenever the Argentine had the ball glued to his feet. Indeed, the crowd went into freeze following a slick one-two combination with left back, Jordi Alba but Atletico goalie, Jan Oblak stopped the stylish Messi from seeing the back of the net.

The response from the Blaugranas was immeditiate and it was Messi once again who was at the heart of it. The Argentine muscled past Savic and Koke to level matters at 1-1.

Messi must have thought he had had his second of the night but VAR intervention delayed the party. Griezmann then later headed the ball home following a rebound from Luis Suarez to put Barcelona on top.

Barca fot another goal disallowed after Vidal was adjudged to be offside. Before long, Neta fouled Vitolo to gift the visitors a penalty. Alvarez Morata wasted no time in converting the goal.

Correa then made it 3-2 only few minutes before the final whistle.
