Bandits Hit Five Sokoto Villages, Scores Killed

In a simultaneous and coordinated attack, Bandits struck in Rabah and Isa local governments areas of Sokoto State, on Saturday evening and killed over 50 people in five villages.

iDONSABI gathered that the victims were buried on Sunday according to Islamic rites.

The state governor, Aminu Tambuwal and some other government officials attended the burial ceremony of about 25 of them in Rabah.

According to reports, the attack in the Isa Local Government Area left 25 people dead with many others injured.

Speaking with newsmen, Abdullahi Maiwada, an eyewitness in Sapiru village, said the bandits who stormed the village, under the Tozai Ward in the Isa Local Government Area at about 5pm on more than 50 motorcycles on Saturday, entered the town and started shooting sporadically.

“Eighteen people were killed instantly, while another seven later died. Fourteen of the victims are currently receiving treatment at the general hospital.

“Another two, who are in critical condition, have been moved to the Usman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital in Sokoto while another one is receiving treatment at the Orthopedic Hospital in Wamakko,” he said.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a villager from Tsage claimed he witnessed the attack said 25 people were killed in Rabah Local Government, which has Tsage, Rakonni and Geeri villages under it.

Reacting to the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Assistant Superintendent of Police Sadiq Abubakar, confirmed the attacks and said four suspects who were allegedly involved in the killings, had been arrested, but failed to give the causalty figure.
