Bastian Schweinsteiger Announces Retirement

Former Bayern Munich and Manchester United midfielder, Bastian Schweinsteiger has called it quit on a successful career with the midfielder now set for a new challenge.

The former Germany International has now hung up his boots following stints at Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Chicago Fire.

The 35-year-old has spent the last three seasons in the MLS turning out for the Chicago Fire outfit fter a brief spell at Old Trafford.

The World Cup winner was considered a worthwhile signing for Manchester United but his spell in England was nothing close to what was expected of him.

The combative midfielder will however be remembered at Bayern Munich where he is regarded as a legend.

Having signed for the German outfit as a teenager, he went on to make 500 competitive appearances for the Bavarians, lifting eight Bundesliga titles and a Champions League trophy.

Schweinsteiger also earned 121 caps for Germany.

The Bayern Munich’s legend best moment in football came in 2014 when he lifted the World Cup title with Joachim Low’s side.

Schweinsteiger made his retirement announcement via social media when he said:

“Dear fans, the time has now come, and I will be finishing my active career at the end of this season.

“I would like to thank both you, my teams FC Bayern, Manchester United, Chicago Fire and the German national team. You made this unbelievable time possible for me!

“And of course, I would like to thank my wife Ana Ivanovic and my family for their support.

“Saying goodbye as an active player makes me feel a little nostalgic, but I am also looking forward to the exciting challenges that await me soon. I will remain faithful to football.

“Many, many thanks for the time we spent together, I will always have a place for you in my heart!”
