Bayern Sign Real Defender, Odiozola On Loan

Bayern Munich have completed the signing of Real Madrid defender, Odriozola on loan. The Spaniard becomes the first signing of the Bavarians in the January transfer window after the 24-year-old fell down the pecking order at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Spaniard will now remain at the Allianz Arena till the end of the season. Indeed, French gaffer, Zinedine Zidane has used the Spanish defender in only five outings this campaign.

Odriozola last made the Starting XI in Madrid’s Champions League outing against Club Brugge.

However, he has not played in the Laliga since the Los Blancos’ defeat to newly-promoted Real Mallorca on October 19.

The right back pitched his tent with Madrid in the summer transfer window of 2018 in a deal worth about £35.4million. He was bought with the intention of being a long-term successor to Dani Carvajal, however, that doesn’t seem to be in the plans of Zidane.

The Spaniard made 22 appearances for the Los Blancos in his debut season, finding the net on one occasion. However, he’s struggled to fit into thr first team of the 13-time European champions.

“After internal discussions, we decided to meet the request of our head coach Hansi Flick for defensive reinforcements and decided together on Alvaro Odriozola,” the Bavarians CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said in a statement.

“We are very happy about the commitment and would like to thank those responsible at Real Madrid for the very friendly and cooperative discussions.”

The Bundesliga sporting director added: “We are convinced Alvaro Odriozola will help our team with his qualities. I am very happy we’ve found a full-back like him.”

Real Madrid also received offers from Atletic Bilbao and Sevilla for the right back after they announced that the 24-year-old was free to leave on loan this January.

It is thought the the news alerted Bayern who had already tried and failed to sign Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo or Borussia Dortmund’s Achraf Hakimi.
