Biography of Nonso Amadi

Nonso Amadi is a Canada-based sensational Afro R &B, soul singer, songwriter and producer. Nonso is a trailblazer in his genre of music who has got fans crooning his songs. From his looks, style and to his voice, Nonso has captured the hearts of the people. His hit single “Tonight” brought him into limelight.

Early life and background of Nonso Amadi

Nonso Amadi was born on September 1, 1995, to Nigerian parents. He is the third of a family of seven. He had his formative years in Nigeria before moving to the UK for further studies. For his secondary school education, he attended the St. Gregory’s College, Ikoyi secondary school and graduated in the year 2009, He embarked on his music career in 2012 while in Covenant University where he studied BSc.Chemical Engineering. In 2014, he discontinued studying in Nigeria and moved to Swansea University, U.K. and completed his degree. He is currently also a master’s degree holder from McMaster’s University, Canada.

The charming singer grew up during one of the golden ages for Lagos Afrobeats. He adopted the genres of softly textured, vocal-fused traditions with ease. On moving to Canada, he got inspired by Drake’s style and this led him to exploring a genre inspired by North America and Africa in equal parts.

His Rise to Fame

Nonso Amadi kick-started his music career professionally in September 2015, with the release of his first EP, Alone and a few months later he released a follow up single, “Tonight“, which has been a major breakthrough. He has so far garnered international attention and collaboration with artists such as Banky W, Maleek Berry and Juls within the first year of his professional career. The self-taught producer draws his lyrical inspiration from moments of extreme emotional phases such as heart break, and sensual pleasures. Nonso is inspired by the likes of Shakka, Justin Bieber and Bryson Tiller. His major musical influence is Jon Bellion. He hope to be featured on the Billboard lists someday and to make music with Jon Bellion.

In December 2017, he held his first ‘Homecoming Concert‘ in Nigeria.
In 2019, he released his second EP, “Free” which has six tracks featuring appearances from Mr Eazi on lead single “Go Outside” and Simi, who provides vocals on “Better.” The EP was entirely produced by Nonso himself, with a little help from British-Ghanaian producer Juls and AoD.

Nonso is currently single. He was once in a relationship which didn’t last long. This was reflected in his single ” Kwasia“.

In 2018, Nonso was nominated for “Best R & B single”. His releases and production over recent years have made Nonso one of the standout acts from a new wave of young Nigerian artists experimenting and pushing boundaries on both sides of the Atlantic.
