Biography of Patoranking

Patoranking is a renowned Nigerian songwriter and musician. He is regarded as the king of reggae-dancehall music who stormed the Nigerian music scene with his hit song “Girlie O” which won the hearts of many fans. He is fast becoming a legend in the Nigerian music industry.

Early life and background of Patoranking

Patoranking was born Patrick Nnaemeka Okorie in Ijegun-Egba, Alimosho, Lagos State on the 27th of May,1990 to a family originally from Ebonyi State. He is the first of five children. He got his stage name “Patoranking ” from a Jamaican friend he met at Alpha Beach, Lagos. He attended Citizen Comprehensive College Epe, and later Jibril Martin Memorial Grammar School in Iponri. Patoranking started his performing arts career as a street jam and carnival dancer. In 2003, he joined a boy group called “Da Flavour Squad”. He was a rat poison seller and a bricklayer before he made it big in the music industry.

Patoranking’s Rise to Fame

At the beginning of his music career, he collaborated with Konga, Reggie Rockstone, Slam and XProject. He released his first single in 2009 with Dem Mama record label. This didn’t get much publicity. He derives inspiration from God and the ghetto life. He has also been influenced by the music style of some notable musicians like Buju Banton, Bob Marley, Fela Kuti, Lucky Dube, Chaka Demus, Majek Fashek, Blackky, Blackface, Tuface and Marvelous Benjy. He released a single “Up in D Club” under K-Solo’s Igberaga Records in 2010.

In May, 2012, Patoranking released another song, a fusion of dancehall and Fuji music which was titled “Iya Bisi” and featured Qdot and Kbaj.

On 12 September 2013, Patoranking released the audio and video for “Alubarika” simultaneously. The song was a summary of his life as a musician.

In February 2014, Patoranking signed a record deal with Foston Musik and ended his affiliations with Dem Mama Records.

On 4 February 2014, he released a chart-topping, critically acclaimed single “Girlie-O”. A “Girlie O Remix” followed a few months later, featuring Tiwa Savage. Tiwa fell in love with the original song so she reached out to Patoranking for a collaboration. Their collaboration was a huge success as it got heavy airplays and was listed on several countdowns across Africa. Patoranking was featured on Seyi Shay’s “Murda” single alongside Shaydee. 2015 was a better year for Patoranking as he got signed to VP Records, a successful reggae and dancehall music label and distributor based in the United States and was founded in 1979. He sealed the deal with the release of two singles; “Daniella Whine” and “My Woman, My Everything” which was on the top of MTV base Official Naija Top 10 Chart. ‘Daniella Whine’ was number four in May, and by June it was already number one on the chart. Meanwhile, ‘My Woman, My Everything‘, debuted at number two of the chart, on its release. His song gained international recognition as it got massive airplays.

In January 2016, The Voice Nigeria made him one of the judges of the first edition of the music reality show: The Voice Nigeria. His first full body of work titled “God over Everything” (G.O.E) was released in August 2016 and made its debut at 4th place on Billboard’s Reggae albums chart.
Aside his music popularity, Patoranking has passion for education. He launched a scholarship scheme for young African children who couldn’t have access to proper education.

Patoranking’s Relationship

Patoranking is not someone that flaunts his relationship openly. In the past, he’s been linked to Jocelyn Dumas and Edma Ohemaa Lawyer, Ghanaian TV host and model. He has a child with his baby mama, Leila.

Patoranking dated his beautiful baby mama Leila before he rose to stardom but things soon went downhill as he got more famous and they both parted ways from each other. The child’s name is Wilmer. In December 2019, it was speculated that he was in a new relationship as he and a lady were seen together in a picture shared on social media.

Awards and nominations

In the year 2014, he won multiple awards including the Best Reggae/Dancehall Single and Best Collaboration at The Headies and also the Best New Act of the Year at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

Patoranking’s Net worth

He is an ambassador for luxury jewelry brand Malivelihood and Lagos city marathon. He also signed a deal with an unknown company worth about N17.5million. His net worth is valued at $1million .
