Biography of Sinach

Sinach is a Nigerian born multiple-award winning gospel singer, vocalist, songwriter and international worship leader. Being a great worship leader, she’s been able to bless millions through her sonorous voice. Sinach has written over 200 inspiring and soul lifting songs from her heart. Some of her most prominent songs are “Way maker, I know who I am, Awesome God” amongst others. Many of her songs are sung by several churches and people all over the world.

Early life and background of Sinach

Born 30th March,1973 in Lagos state, Nigeria, Osinachi Kalu hails from Ebonyi state and she’s the second daughter of seven children. She had her primary and secondary education in her home state. She proceeded to study Physics at the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers state.
As a child, Sinach had dreams where she saw herself singing to large crowds but didn’t actively pursue anything musically as a career till she joined the choir at her local church.

Sinach’s Rise to Fame

Her singing career started in 1989 as a hobby. Then, she sang to the hearing of family and friends and worked as an administrative staff and choir member in Christ Embassy (also known as Believers Love world Church). She began writing songs when she was 19 years old. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, General Overseer helped her commence her music career, by asking her to take the worship before he teaches. Her first album was released in 2008. It won the “song of the year” award. She adopted the stage name “Sinach” because it was catchy and easy to pronounce.


Sinach is a spiritual, talented gospel artiste known globally. Her songs have given hope to the hopeless and joy to many. She believes serving God and living a life of holiness pays. She’s been a born again for 20 years and has been singing for close to 15 years. As a key member of the LoveWorld music team, she has ministered in songs and there’s been outpouring of the Holy Spirit and performance of amazing miracles in people’s lives.

Sinach’s Relationship and Family Life

The gospel singer got married to Joseph Egbu in June 28, 2014. The wedding was held at Christ Embassy Church in Ikeja, Lagos. Her husband is a pastor at Believers LoveWorld Ministries. They welcomed their first child in November, 2019.

Awards and nominations

Sinach has nine albums and several hits to her name. Her albums include Chapter One, I’m Blessed, Shout loud, Glory in glory, Sinach at Christmas, Sinach in concert, The name of Jesus, Waymaker Live and There’s an overflow.
In May 2012, Sinach won the prize for best gospel artist of the year at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards. That same year, she won the prize for best singer in West Africa and the best hit at the Love World Awards.

In 2013, Sinach won the Best Gospel Artist of the Year award at the NIPUGA Awards. She also won the Best Female Gospel Artist of the Year, Best Song of the Year and Best Female Voice at the Nigeria Gospel Music Awards.

In 2016, Sinach was the first recipient of the LIMA Songwriter of the Decade Award, recognizing her contribution to gospel music in the previous decade. Her songs were being sung in many countries, translated to many languages, around the world. That same year, she received the African Achievers’ Award for Global Excellence. Also that same year, for the second time in a row, she won the Western Africa Artist Of The Year by Groove Awards in Kenya, and was listed by YNaija alongside Chris Oyakhilome , Enoch Adeboye as one of the Top 100 Influential Christians in Nigeria.

In 2017, she was inducted into the Bethlehem Hall of Fame, joining Dwayne Johnson, Pope Benedict XVI and a host of other internationally recognized celebrities on the list.

On 7 March 2019, Sinach became the first Gospel singer from Nigeria to obtain over 100 million views of a single video on YouTube, and the third Nigerian to achieve that feat, next to Davido and Yemi Alade , who achieved the same feat in December 2018. She achieved this with her song, “Way Maker”. Christian artistes such as Michael W. Smith, Darlene Zschech , Leeland, Bethel Music and Mandisa made their “Waymaker” covers.

In September 2019, Sinach became the first Gospel Artist from Africa to tour India, headlining concerts with several thousands in attendance.

On 16 March 2020, Sinach hit the 1 million threshold on YouTube and was awarded a gold plaque.


She has performed at concerts in over 50 countries including Kenya, Dominica, South Africa, United States, Canada, Antigua and Barbuda, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Grenada, Uganda, Barbados, The British Virgin Islands, Zambia, the United Kingdom, and India.
