Breaking: Naira Marley Granted Bail On 2 Conditions

Nigerian singer, Naira Marley granted bail by a Federal High Court, Ikoyi Lagos.

— However, he was granted the bail to the sum of 2 million naira and 2 sureties.

After days in prison, Naira Marley’s bail application was finally heard today on the 30th.

His lead defense counsel, Olalekan Ojo apologized for his absence during his arraignment on May 20th. He explained that it was caused by a heavy downpour.

Arguing for his client, Ojo urged the court to grant him bail  based on his presumption of innocence in accordance with Section 162 (1).

However, Rotimi Oyedepo argued that it’s the final judgment that matters and not the temporary release. He also reminded the court that he’s a celebrity and his actions and inactions will have a great influence on the youths.

The judge, Justice Nicholas Oweibo, after listening to both sides agreed to grant the singer to a bail of 2 million naira. But on 2 sureties:

1. One of the surety must must be on Grade Level 10 in the Federal or State employment.

2. Another surety must have a landed property within the court jurisdiction.

His trial has been adjourned to 22, 23 and 24th of October for accelerated hearing.
