In response to an incriminating and shocking video of the Kano State Governor; Abdullahi Umar Ganduje receiving a bribe, the Kano State House of Assembly has set up a seven-man committee on Monday, in order to verify the authenticity of the video clip. The indicting video clip showed Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje receiving a bribe in the form of foreign currencies from an unknown contractor last week.
This committee was set up in response to a motion of urgent public relations filed by the representative of Warawa Constituency, Mr. Laraban Abdul Madari, and seconded by Mr Baffa Babba Danagundi of the Kano Municipal Constituency.
During the plenary session, Mr Mandari laid emphasis on the fact that the State Assembly has the mandate to carry out an in-depth investigation on any matter that threatens the peace and harmony of the state.
In support of this motion the majority leader, Mr. Baffa Babba Danagundi, advised the state’s executive hand to stop the filing of a case before a law court on the alleged video clip released by an online medium. According to Baffa the State Assembly has the right and constitutional mandate to investigate the issue further without any interference from the executive arm during the whole process.
The motion was debated and weighed on the floor of the house presided over by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum. Rurum constituted a seven-man committee while speaking on the motion during deliberation. The seven-man committee will investigate the issue and tender their reports within 30 days.
The Majority leader, Mr. Baffa Babba Danagundi, was given the task to head the committee. Other members are Zubairu Massu, Garba Yau Gwarmai, Labaran Abdul Madari, Abubakar Uba Galadaima, Abdulaziz Garba Gafasa, while Mr. Mujitaba Aminu would serve as the secretary of this committee.
Within one month, the committee members are required to carry out in-depth and unbiased research in order to ascertain the veracity of the video clip involving Gov. Ganduje before proper decisions can be taken
