Anger, Controversy As Army Retires Over 200 Officers

Controversy is now trailing the sudden retirement of about 200 senior officers from the rank of Lieutenant Colonels to Major Generals in the Nigerian Army.

The affected officers, it was gathered, have already been served with notices of retirement and they are to proceed on terminal leave with effect from yesterday.

Oja Oba/Mapo Court C Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State has terminated the wedlock between a couple, Taye Akinwale and Musiliu Akinwale.

Taye Akinwale who dragged her husband to court in her divorce suit stated that Musiliu was a complete failure in regards to his roles as husband and father adding that he walked out their marriage and abandoned her and their children.


She Is A Drunk, Harlot; I Caught Her In A Hotel —Husband

A man, Wasiu Olayiwola has pleaded with Aremo Idiose Grade C Customary Court, Agodi Gate, Ibadan, Oyo State to dissolve his 8-year-old marriage to his wife, Adeola Olayiwola.

Wasiu alleged that his wife was a troublemaker, drunk and harlot. According to him, she has no regard for him and goes out at will.

Adeola, reacting to the claim stated, agreed to the dissolution of their marriage. According to her, her husband is irresponsible and fond of beating her at every given opportunity.

Having listened to both plaintiff and defendant, the court president, Chief Amusa Makinde adjourned the case till February 11, for judgment.


Falana Accuses FG Of Criminal Diversion Of Public Funds

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria and a human rights lawyer, Mr Femi Falana, has accused the Federal Government of diversion of a huge sum of money collected in US dollars and of fraudulently approving 70 per cent of its revenue collected on aliens in the country to a foreign consultant.

The allegation is contained in a letter dated 29 January, 2019 addressed to the Minister of Interior and signed by Falana with the title: Criminal diversion of public funds and wrongful enrichment of a foreign consultant by the Ministry of Interior through extortion of foreigners resident in Nigeria in gross violation of the Central Bank Act, Presidential Executive Order No 5 of 2018 and Federal Government policy on Treasury Single Account.


I Did Not Endorse Buhari/Osinbajo Ticket — Awolowo Dosumu

Ambassador (Dr) Olatokunbo Awolowo Dosumu, has disclaimed political campaign posters in circulation and on some online platforms, purportedly printed, courtesy of herself, in endorsement of the Buhari/Osinbajo ticket ahead of the presidential election coming up on Saturday, February 16, 2019.

Ambassador (Dr) Awolowo Dosumu, reacting in a statement she personally signed on Sunday, said, her right to endorse candidates for political offices based on her conviction, is not transferable, as a result, she said, “I, therefore, consider this attempted blackmail utterly preposterous and I totally reject it.”


We Forgive You ― Alaafin, Oyomesi Tell Alao-Akala

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi and the Oyomesi on Saturday told the gubernatorial candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Oyo state and former governor of the state, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala that they have forgiven him for whatever wrong he did to them when he was the governor of the state, adding that he had always been their child in Oyo.

Oba Adeyemi and the Oyomesi gave the pardon when Alao-Akala paid him a visit to inform him of his ambition and ask for his blessings.


Oyo Assembly Bemoans Low IGR Generation, Recurrent Industrial Actions

THE 2019 appropriation bill of Oyo State to the tune of N285,151,248,190.48 was, on Thursday, passed into law with the state Assembly decrying the below average performance of Ministries, Departments and Agencies in generating revenue internally, in the past year.

Contained in a report of the appropriation committee on the 2019 budget as presented by its Chairperson, Honourable Bolanle Agbaje, the Assembly said the MDAs attributed the handicap to difficulties in getting required logistics and running grants for monthly operations.

NNDC Hands Off Hamdala Hotel, Others To South African Firm

The New Nigeria Development Company Ltd (NNDC) belonging to the 19 Northern states has entered into an agreement with Castles HMG Africa (Pty) Ltd, a South African firm to take over the operation.

This was contained in a statement issued to the Nigerian Tribune and signed by the Acting Managing Director of NNDC, Mallam Shehu Mai-Bornu.

The statement disclosed that the signing of the agreement was the culmination of two years of discussions and that all stakeholders should ensure that the partnership entered between the two parties work.
