1. We’ll Shut Down Nigeria Over CJN Onnoghen – N’Delta Militants

Niger Delta militants have vowed to shut down Nigeria if the FG does not stop the “harassment” of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen.

In a statement on Sunday signed by a General John Dukku of the Niger Delta Watchdogs and Coalition of Niger Delta Agitators, the militants said the CJN was being witch-hunted because he hails from the south-south minority zone.

The coalition of the agitators also warned that all non indigenes who own oil wells in the Niger-delta region should vacate the region.

They also threatened to deal with Niger-deltans working with the President Buhari’s government. They warned them to watch their backs as they were coming for them.

2. Onnoghen’s Arraignment Date Re-fixed for jan. 22

The Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) has made a change to the arraignment of Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter which was supposed to be on Monday, January 14 to Tuesday, January 22.

The change of date for Onnoghen’s arraignment was effected because of argument by the defence counsel that the CJN had not been properly served.

3. Buhari, Atiku Show No Plans to Attend Presidential Debate

There have been no indications that either of the two leading presidential candidates, APC Muhammadu Buhari and PDP Atiku Abubakar is preparing to honour the presidential debate scheduled for January 19.

Recall that the Special Adviser to the President on Media, Femi Adesina had announced that his principal, President Buhari was still undecided about honouring the presidential debate Read here

Recall also that the special adviser promised that Nigerians would be informed if the president makes a decision.

Well, fast forward to today, 15th January which is barely 4 days to the debate, there has been no news from the presidency or the opposition on whether either of them will honour the January 19th presidential debate.

4. Violence as Herdsmen Invade Delta Community

One person has been shot with several others sustaining various degrees of injuries during a protest by women and youths of Agadama community in Ughelli, Delta State over a recent herdsmen invasion of their community.

The protest came two days after a fisherman named Genesis, was shot dead by the herdsmen.

The protesters, who laid siege on the road as early as 6a.m, said they sighted about100 herdsmen trooping into their community at about 2a.m on Monday.

A source reported that it was a troop of the army stationed at Bomadi that shot one of the youths identified as Vincent Jonathan after the protesters accused them of aiding the herdsmen.

5. Why PDP Named Technical Advisers for Atiku

Following the announcement of 4 PDP big shots, Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara and former governors of Kaduna and Jigawa states, Ahmed Makarfi and Sule Lamido respectively as technical advisers to the P PDP, Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar; a highly placed party member of PDP has come out to reveal why they were just appointed.

The highly-placed party source who didn’t want his name on quote revealed that the four party chieftains were appointed to counsel the PDP presidential candidate with their expert counsel in their areas of influence.

According to him, the party big shots have been acting in that capacity all along but were only just announced to refute the APC hearsays that the PDP candidate had been abandoned by the big shots of the party for APC President Buhari.

6. Kashamu Retains PDP’S Governorship Ticket in Ogun

An Abuja high court on Monday dismissed a suit filed by Ladi Adebutu to contest the nomination of Buruji Kashamu as the PDP governorship candidate in Ogun State.

Kashamu, senator representing Ogun east and Adebutu had been at war over the PDP governorship ticket of Ogun State.

In the suit, Adebutu asked the court to declare him the authentic candidate of the party for the March 2 governorship election.

The presiding judge, Ajoke Adepoju ruled in favour of Kashamu saying that although Adebutu had been nominated by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party, the primary election where he emerged winner of the party’s ticket was conducted in violation of a subsisting court judgment.

7. Python Dance III Soldiers Avert Clash between Farmers and Herders in Anambra

The 82 Division of the Nigerian Army have announced that soldiers on Operation Python Dance III averted a clash between farmers and Fulani herdsmen in Anambra State.

A statement signed on Sunday by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Col Sagir Musa, said that a herder died in the averted clash at Anam area of the state.

Anam has previously been in the news over the kidnap of two priests of the Catholic Church in the area.

8. IGP Meets with Buhari Behind Closed Doors

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari on Monday met with the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris behind closed doors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The meeting which held behind closed doors started around 4.30p.m and ended at about 5:10pm. The agenda of his meeting with the president is still unknown.

Idris was expected to retire from service on attainment of the mandatory 35 years in service on the 15th of January, 2019 but is yet to be retired by the presidency that appointed him.

9. Army flags Off Python Dance III in Lagos, Ogun

The Nigerian Army has on Monday flagged off Exercise Egwu Eke III, (Python Dance III) which was scheduled to hold from January till the end of the general elections.

The reason behind the Operation was announced to be to tackle security challenges in Nigeria before, during and after the elections.

10. Revealed, Buhari to Name New IGP on Tuesday

A reliable source has disclosed that the presidency has picked a name of an Assistant Inspector General of Police from Nasarawa State as possible replacement for the due to retire Inspector-General of Police Ibrahim Idris.

The source also revealed that the IGP’s meeting with the President on Monday in Aso rock was “a bye-bye visit’.
