1. APC Lawmakers Vows to Resist Move to Impeach Buhari
APC lawmakers in the Senate vowed over the weekend to resist the move by the leadership of the National Assembly to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Senate had earlier announced an emergency sitting for Tuesday to deliberate on what it termed the unconstitutional suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria and another (Justice Ibrahim Muhammad) appointed in acting capacity in his stead.
But the leadership of the National Assembly met on Sunday ahead of the emergency sitting.
Onnoghen is being tried by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) for not fully declaring his assets.
However, a former Senate Leader, Ali Ndume and APC lawmaker while speaking in Abuja said the president’s suspension of Onnoghen was not unconstitutional.

2 Osinbajo Cancelled His TV Interview on Sunday
Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo cancelled his scheduled appearance on Channels TV Interview Programme, Rubbin’ Minds on Sunday.
He blamed his non-appearance on “the exigencies of campaign timing”.
Osinbajo was scheduled to be interview by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on the programme
However, with Nigerians waiting for the much anticipated interview scheduled for 3pm on Sunday, Ebuka broke the unexpected news on twitter that the vice-president has cancelled.
He tweeted: “Due to some matters arising, our proposed guest @ProfOsinbajo, will no longer be appearing on #RubbinMinds today.
3. Lassa Fever Returns, Kills 5 in Plateau
Five people were reportedly killed in Plateau following a recorded 17 confirmed cases of Lassa fever in the State.
Dr. Kunden Deyin, the state’s health commissioner told the news men on Sunday in Jos that 33 cases were in the lab for investigations whereas 17 cases were already confirmed to be Lassa fever.
The commissioner also added that 73 persons, who had primary and secondary contacts with the patients, were under monitoring.
4. Governor Fayemi Has No Power to Sack VC – ASUU
Ekiti State University (EKSU) chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has condemned the recent sack of EKSU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Samuel Oye Bandele by the State Governor, Kayode Fayemi.
The ASUU-EKSU chairman, Prof. Olufayo Olu-Olu, in his statement in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday said Fayemi’s action failed to follow due process.
According to Olu-Olu the governor has no power to remove the VC, adding that such power lies with the Governing Council of the University.
Recall that Governor Fayemi had earlier announced last Tuesday a removal of EKSU VC alongside the Chief Medical Director of Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Dr. Kolawole Ogundipe; and Provost of College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti, Prof. Mojisola Oyarekua. He subsequently announced replacements for them in acting capacities.
5. Senator Shittu Apologizes for Supporting Buhari’s Emergence in 2015
Jigawa North West Senator, Ubali Shitu has asked for forgiveness from the general public for his role in the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.
Senator Shitu tendered his apology while addressing a large number of PDP supporters at a rally in Dutse.
Shitu had also recently defected from the APC to the PDP.
He described the leadership of the APC as lacking focus and being pros at making fake promises.
6. Muslim Group Defends Buhari, Attacks US, UK over Suspension of CJN
iDonsabi has been reliably informed that the concerns raised by the United States, US, and Britain over the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Walter Onnoghen did not go down well with the Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC.
MURIC in a statement signed by its Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, on Saturday said both US and Britain need not look at the suspension in isolation but consider the gravity of the offence committed by the suspended CJN, Onnoghen.

7. INEC Releases List of Successful Election Observers for 2019 Elections [See List]
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released a comprehensive list of successful applicants to observe the 2019 elections.
The published list containing names of both Domestic and Foreign Observers was published on INEC’s website: http://www.inecnigeria.org
The successful election observers will observe the 2019 general elections holding on 16th February and 2nd March 2019 See list here

8. Okorocha Blows Hot over Ohanaeze’s Endorsement of Atiku
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has blown hot over the recent endorsement of Atiku Abubakar, the PDP Presidential Candidate by Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
Ohaneze Ndigbo, few days ago endorsed Atiku as its preferred candidate for the February 16 presidential elections.
Reacting to the unanimous endorsement of Atiku by the Igbo socio-cultural group, Okorocha said the endorsement was simply a folk story with no electoral significance.
In a statement signed on Saturday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo, Okorocha said the endorsement can’t make any one “lose sleep.”

9. FG Warns US, UK, EU over Criticisms on CJN Suspension
The Federal Government has sounded a note of warning to the United States, the European Union and the United Kingdom over their criticisms on the suspension of the former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Recall that many Nigerians, including the international community condemned the development.
However, the Federal Government in a statement issued by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu warned the international community to desist from interfering into the nation’s affairs.
The statement said such interference was capable of creating apprehension, distrust among citizens and could also undermine the transparency and acceptability of outcomes of the nation’s electoral process.
10. Lagos Land Owners Have Been Shortchanged for 19 Years – Agbaje
During a town hall meeting with Ibeju-Lekki residents over the weekend, the Lagos PDP Governorship Candidate said land usurpers in the state should not be allowed to carry on with business as usual as that was injustice.
Agbaje said that for 19 years, the trend has been for the ruling forces at the helm of state affairs to shortchange land owners for a pittance and then resell their lands to land speculators.
Agbaje further revealed that in some cases, land owners were dispossessed of their lands without appropriate compensations.
The PDP governorship candidate who was accompanied by his Running Mate, Mrs. Haleemat Busari vowed to eliminate the Lekki Toll Gate as soon as he comes into power.
