Over 3,500 Children Recruited By Terrorist Groups Between 2013 and 2017 – UNICEF

The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has called for the protection of children rights against violence and other forms of abuses in the nation in a statement released on Thursday.

According  to the UN’s representative in Nigeria, Mohamed Fall, more than 3, 500 children aged between 13 and 17 were recruited by non-state armed groups between 2013 and 2017; and used in the ongoing conflict in the northeast.

NUP Lauds Buhari for Prompt Payment of Pensions

The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for regular and prompt payment of pensions.

Abel Afolayan, NUP’s President, made the commendation at a one-day interactive forum organised by the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) for pensioners from the North Central Zone in Abuja where they interacted with ‘senior citizens’ on the progress made so far and to find ways to address challenges confronting pension administration.

Nigerian Bags 11years Jail Term in US Over Fraud

It was gathered that Desmond who was sentenced by District Judge James Moody on Wednesday, April 10,  was found guilty of conspiracy to commit money laundering and money laundering. The judge issued a forfeiture order of $833,625 against Okechukwu and it is believed to be the proceeds of the charged criminal conduct. The court also ordered that he restituted his act by paying his ‘victim’ a whopping $1,358,500.

APC Has Claimed that Atiku Abubakar is Not A Citizen of Nigeria

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has claimed that the Presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2019 presidential election, Atiku Abubakar, is not a citizen of Nigeria by birth and should not to have even been given the chance to contest in the first place.

The APC stated this in response to the election petition filed by the PDP against President Muhammadu Buhari and the party before the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.

The ruling party faulted the grounds of the petition, adding that Atiku “ is not a citizen of Nigeria by birth and ought not to have even been allowed in the first place to contest the election”, claiming that  Abubakar was born on Nov . 25 , 1946 in Jada, Adamawa, in Northern Cameroon and therefore a citizen of Cameroon and not a Nigerian by birth.

Buhari Travels to Chad for CEN-SAD

President Muhammadu Buhari will depart Nigerian on Saturday for the Chad Republic to participate in the Extraordinary Session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD).

President Buhari and other regional leaders will join their host and current Chairperson of CEN-SAD Conference, President Idriss Deby Itno to deliberate among others on political and security issues, state of peace and ways to address multifaceted threats in CEN-SAD area especially Boko Haram and refugees; and make a declaration on the entry into force of CEN-SAD revised Treaty intended to fast track the realisation of the objectives of the body.
