Lamido Lauds Buhari’s Anti-Graft Crusade

The Lamido of Adamawa, Alhaji Muhammad Barkindo has said that people with a clear conscience had no cause to be apprehensive over the anti-graft crusade of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Monarch, who noted that President Buhari’s reelection at the February 23 Presidential election was an act of God pointed that it would enable him to complete the anti-corruption war he started long ago when he was the country’s military leader.

Fire Guts Borno IDPs Camp, Destroys 140 Shelters

140 shelters have been destroyed by fire in two Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps at Monguno Local Government Area of Borno.

This National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Northeast Information Officer, Abdulkadir Ibrahim, who said the fire incidents were recorded at Flatari and Nguro camps in Monguno on Saturday disclosed that 28 shelters were destroyed at Flatari camp, affecting 20 households while 120 shelters were razed and 77 households displaced at Nguro in the fire disaster.

Life Pension Bill: SERAP Tells Dickson to Reject Bill

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has told Bayelsa Governor, Seriake Dickson to reject the proposed life pension bill for lawmakers in the state proposed last week by the leader of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Peter Akpe.

The Human Rights Group in a letter by its Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare said should the governor go-ahead to assent the bill, it will institute legal proceedings to challenge the legality of the legislation and ensure full compliance with constitutional provisions and Nigeria’s international anti-corruption obligations, noting that public officials have a legal commitment to discharge a public duty truthfully and faithfully.

NGO Proffers Solutions to Prison Congestion

A non-governmental organization, Good Leadership and Peace Advocates of Nigeria (GOLEPAN) has blamed the Federal Government and the Nigeria Police Force for prison congestion across the country.

GOLAP therefore the Police can decongest prisons by exercising its discretion in determining whether a case is serious for prosecution or not.

Dangote Reacts to Honorary Doctoral Degree Given to Him By ABU

Aliko Dangote has reacted to the Honorary Doctorate degree given to him by the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, declaring that he is humbled and honoured to accept the degree from the higher institution.

Aliko Dangote also used the moment to speak on the Aliko Dangote hall donated to the school campus.

AASU Rejects Federal Government’s Personal Verification Forms

The President of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Prof Abiodun Ogunyemi has ordered all members of the union across the country not to fill the personnel verification forms being sent by the Budget Office of the Federation to all Nigerian universities.

Prof Ogunyemi said that the recent 2019 personnel verification exercise was only a plot by the Federal Government, to discretely force in lecturers of public universities into the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, IPPIS.
