1. No Extension for IGP Idris as AIG Muhammed Abubakar Adamu Takes Over

Assistant Inspector General of Police from Nasarawa State, AIG Adamu Mohammed has been decorated by President Buhari as the replacement for IGP Idris who is due to retire today, the 15th of January.

The former IGP, Ibrahim Idris took his successor, Adamu to the President who decorated him in his new rank at the presidential villa, Aso Rock.

2. Buhari, Osinbajo, Saraki, Dogara, Onnoghen Honour Fallen Heroes

President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen on Tuesday took part in the laying of wreaths in honour of Nigeria’s fallen soldiers.

President Buhari who was clad in white ‘Babanriga’, just like the Vice President, Osinbajo, Senate President Saraki and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dogara, only Onnoghen, as the head of the judiciary was in suit led the dignitaries to release white pigeons at the no speech making ceremony.

The ceremony was to mark the 2019 Armed Forces Remembrance Day as January 15 every year is dedicated to the remembrance of fallen Nigerian soldiers.

3. Hand Over Ceremony Cancelled, Imohimi Remains CP Lagos

It has been confirmed that Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, Imohimi Edgal is still the command’s boss, contrary to an earlier signal for him to be redeployed to Abuja.

Edgal, was expected to handover to his planned successor, Ag. CP Kayode Egbetokun, today.

However, a contrary signal from ‘above’ reversed his redeployment.

The reversal in Edgal’s redeployment plans was alluded to his operational prowess that brought crime to barest minimal in Lagos State.

4. 45 Nigerians Come Down Hard on ACP Shogunle Over CJN Tweet

Following the massive volunteer for representation of CJN Walter Onnoghen, by 45 Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) and 94 other lawyers, a tweeter popular Assistant Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Shogunle, tweeted: “I wish Nigerian lawyers extend same zeal & pro bono to thousands of awaiting trial inmates”.

The tweet did not go down well with Nigerian tweeter users as they came down hard on him, saying that the police, including him would have done the same if it were the Inspector General of Police.

5. Kanu Laments Disrespect for Court Injunction on his Property

Former Super Eagles Player, Kanu Nwankwo has decried the illegal takeover of one of his properties, “Hardly Apartment’’, located in Victoria Island, Lagos, which was under litigation.

The property has been a subject of litigation and has been under temporary possession of AMCON since 2015 over alleged indebtedness.

In Kanu’s words, “It really hurts me to see that a property under litigation and that an injunction of a court could be disregarded with work ongoing there. I am a law abiding citizen and I think people should respect that.”

6. CJN Onnoghen Reacts to EFCC Raiding his Residence

Following Femi Fani-Kayode’s tweeter post that the anti-graft agency, EFCC laid siege on CJN Onnoghen’s Abuja residence, the CJN has come out to dismiss the information as false news.

According to FFK, “Why have the EFCC surrounded the home of CJN Onnoghen and why are they seeking to arrest him?”

“These people want Nigeria to burn! Buhari call off your dogs before it is too late!”

He then proceeded to tell Buhari to call off his dogs.

However, in response to FFK’s allegation, the Senior Special Adviser to the CJN on media, Mr. Awassam Bassey said: “I really don’t know where they got the information from. So many media men were here earlier with cameras over the same report.

“But what I can tell you for now is that there was no such thing. It is false news”, he said

7. Patience Jonathan Plays 5 Videos in Court to Prove She Owned Temporarily Forfeited $8.4m, N7.4bn

The wife of the former President, Patience Jonathan, has made a case for the sum of $8.4 million and N7.4bn temporarily forfeited to the Federal Government.

At the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Tuesday, her lawyers played five video evidences to convince the trial judge, Justice Mojisola Olatoregun, that the monies were not illegitimate funds.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had ha through an ex parte application in April 2018 obtained an interim order for the forfeiture of the sum.

8. Outcome of Extraordinary’ FEC Meeting Emerges

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said that the extraordinary meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on National Minimum Wage had been postponed until after the National Economic Council’s (NEC) deliberation on the matter.

The minister stated this in a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to him, the FG was awaiting the final position of the NEC on the new national minimum wage.

He also added that he could not talk on the outcome of the meeting over the new minimum wage until the NEC tenders in the results of its deliberations.

9. Secondus Warns New IGP, Adamu Mohammed

The National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus has advised the new IG of Police, Adamu Abuabakar Mohammad to thread the route of credibility in his new job by “clearing the mess heaped on the force by his predecessor, Ibrahim Idris”.

He spoke at the Freedom Square, Oshogbo, Osun State on Tuesday when the presidential campaign train of the party made their South West tour.

The National Chairman told the new IG that he needed to carve his path and avoid everything of Idris “because he served the APC and the cabals not the Nigeria Police or the Nigerian people”.

10. Gunmen Kill 26 in Sokoto Invasion – Police

According to Police report on Tuesday, at least 26 people were killed after cattle thieves raided several villages in Sokoto state.

Eye witness acconts said, armed bandits on motorcycles attacked Warwana, Tabkin Kwasa and Dutsi, a trio of neighbouring villages in Rabah district, on Sunday evening, shooting residents as they fled.

“Twenty six people were killed in the attack — they included 24 males and two females,” Sokoto state police commissioner Murtala Usman Mani informed.
