The Nigerian National Women’s Football team , The Super Falcons have won the 2018 AWCON competition in Ghana.
The Super Falcons defeated the Banyana Banyana of South Africa 4-3 on penalties to win the trophy in what will be their record 9th title.
The match saw live action both in the first half and second halves but both teams failed to get on the score sheet.
The match proceeded into extra-time but tired legs began to be evident in both teams. Both managers made changes to try to influence the match but all to no avail.
After the extra time, the penalties started and South Africa ’s Linda Motlhalo missed a penalty to hand Nigeria their 9th title.
The two teams also met in the 2016 final of the same competition, where Nigeria triumphed and South Africa will have to wait another time to exact their revenge.
Both teams will now set their sights on the FIFA Women’s World Cup in France 2019.
