Brighton Vs Liverpool – Match Report

Mohammed Salah’s penalty was enough for the visitors as a pretty much unimpressive Liverpool beat Brighton with 1-0. This result sees them seven points above Manchester City who will be playing at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers tomorrow.

Liverpool have bounced back from two consecutive defeats in all competitions, ones in which they lost to Manchester City and Wolves. After a below par first half, a fine bit of skill and movement from Salah was enough to punish the home side and win the reds a penalty. But before then, let’s discuss the happenings of the first 45 minutes.

Fabinho took the place of injured Dejan Lovren to form a defensive pair with Van Dijk. The Brazilian was on hand to deliver a pass to Robertson who in turn sent a cross-in for Firmino. But the Brazilian couldn’t quite send the ball home.

There was no room in the heart of Brighton’s defence as the home boys remained calm and collected at the back. Sadio Mane tried to engineer a string of passes leading to the box with the ball finally finding its way into the path of Xherdan Shaqiri. However, the Swede just shot off wide. Half time it is.

The second half resumed with the two sides not quite good enough in the final third. On the 50th-minute clock, a fine movement by Salah in the box forced the defenders to pull him down and the hands of the referee to point to the spot. The Egyptian placed the ball on the spot and converted the chance. He chose power over skill as Button moved in the right direction but couldn’t keep the ball out.

On the flip side, it was Fabinho who was called into action as the Brazilian was forced to block a cross from Gross.

Allison kept his composure in between the sticks as he kept another clean sheet of the season.

This result has silenced critics as Liverpool remain log leaders with the end of the season edging closer.
