Brilliant Liverpool Sweep Aside Helpless Watford [Highlights]

Five goals from Liverpool were enough to thwart Watford hopes of qualifying for European football. Three points was more than enough to make a statement but the Reds went all out to kill off the game with a mesmerizing brand of football, ‘Gegenpressing’ at its best.

With only one point ahead of Manchester City you’d think the pressure was resting on their shoulders but Klopp’s men knew what they had to do.

“This was how football should look” was Klopp’s statement after the game. Considering that two of those goals were scored by centre-back, Virgil Van Dijk with each of the full-backs supplying at least two assists, one’s mind would wonder around the thought, ‘How well did Liverpool really play in the final attacking third?’ Let’s get down to the talking points.

Everyone on the home side was spectacular on the night but the relentlessness of Mohammed Salah must be praised for the first goal. The Egyptian Pharaoh worked some ball into the path of Trent Alexander-Arnold with the marauding right back sending a sumptuous cross for Sadio Mane to head home just nine minutes into the game.

That wasn’t enough partnership between the two as Arnold whipped in another cross for Mane who seemed to have lost the ball for a moment before his cheeky back-heel went pass helpless Ben Foster with only twenty minutes gone on the clock.

Divock Origi who was playing on the left wing got the third of the night after cutting into the box from the left flank and firing past Foster with Robertson bagging his first assist for the night. There’s no way Foster could have seen that one coming.

Liverpool were running riot as Mohammed Salah ran the Hornets ragged but the post upright came to their rescue. Watford would have been gutted by that goal, but oh well they conceded another. Just another?

Indeed, twice more through Virgil Van Dijk from setpieces with each of Liverpool’s full-backs Andriy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold turning provider on both occasions.

Liverpool 5-0 Watford it ended.
