Bruno Helps Manchester United To Another Victory In Manchester Derby

It was an eventful derby match and for the second time in the League this season, Manchester is Red. Manchester United trounced their noisy neighbours, Guardiola’s Manchester City who have had a topsy-turvy season so far to sit in fifth-place, three points adrift of third-placed, Chelsea.

Without Rashford leading the frontline for the Red devils, many punters backed Manchester City to get the win or worse still, a draw. In start contrast, the scoreline was a defeaning 2-0 with the Citizens getting the stick. In fairness to City, they were missing a midfield maestro in Kevin De Bruyne and his replacement, Phil Foden couldn’t fill into those big shoes.

Martial got the opener from a set piece after a tricky freekick from January signing, Bruno Fernandes put him through on goal. Fernandes and Fred were positioned to take a freekick but as the former pointed to the wall, he quickly lobbed a pass to Martial who was outside of the wall. The Frenchman sent a swirling ball the way of Ederson Morales and there was very little the Brazilian could do to keep the ball out. 1-0 it was.

From that moment onwards, United were on the front foot, trying down the flanks and taking advantage of the slow Fernandinho. Otamendi was also caught several times but United failed to tuck in the ball.

City were a strong favorite to score an equalizer or perhaps complete a comeback after the interval but WanBissaka kept Sterling at bay. The introduction of Riyad Mahrez and Gabriel Jesus opened up the game a little for the Citizens but none could see past De Gea. Mahrez was more entertained by dribbling Brandon Williams while Jesus was kept busy by the duo of Lindelof and Maguire.

With Martial and Fernandes pulled out, there was no spark in the final third and United only wished to keep the scoreline the same. However, a goalkeeping gaffe by Ederson gifted McTominay the ball. The midfielder then launched home to make it a fine 2-0 win.
