Cardiff City vs Tottenham-EPL January 2019, Preview and Scores

Match Preview

Following sensational displays over the Christmas period, Tottenham slipped to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers. On the other hand, Camarasa handed his side a stoppage time winner over Leicester City. The clash between these two sides at the Cardiff City Stadium promises to be an edgy one.

Cardiff

The Bluebirds ended 2018 in excellent fashion after making away with their first away win in the Premier League season against the Foxes. Although, they have only won 5 times in their last 12 games. It is however their recent home record that gives you that tingling feeling. They have won four out of their last six games there. Neil Warnock would fancy his side giving the North Londoners a run for their money and handing them their second straight loss. This is owing to the fact that Cardiff have lost all three of their premier league meetings with Tottenham by a 0-1 scoreline.

Tottenham

These were Mauricio Pochettino’s words after the match against Wolves:

It’s not enough to play 60 or 70 minutes, you need to play 95 minutes at your best. Like today, we dropped a little bit in our energy and focus and in the last 20 minutes we conceded three goals.

This Spurs team would be looking to play a team known for scoring second-half and stoppage time goals. The Lilywhites cannot however allow another slip-up as a loss would give further fuel to those who label Pochettino’s men as bottlers.

Victor Wanyama, Jan Vertonghen, Mousa Dembele, Eric Dier and Erik Lamela are definite absentees. Serge Aurier however could return in time to play following a groin problem.

Neil Warnock’s side has no fresh injury concerns for the Lilywhite’s visit. Forward Kenneth Zohore remains sidelined with a thigh injury while Joe Bennett and Nathaneil Mendez-Lang could be back in contention for a place in the first team.

Scores Prediction

You get the feeling that the first goal in this match, if indeed there is one, would be very crucial. I fancy both sides to score at least a goal.

Scores

It was a bad day at the office for Cardiff City as a rampaging Tottenham needed only 45minutes to brush aside Warnock’s men. The Lilywhites proved too strong for Cardiff as goals by Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen and Heung-min Son proved decisive.

It was Kane who had the goal inside of three minutes after a ball came off Cardiff’s captain, Sean Morrison. Tottenham doubled their advantage after a fine ball was slotted home by Christian Eriksen. It didn’t take long before Heng-min Son saw off a challenge by Sean Morrison and fired a low shot towards the left corner of the net to all but seal the contest.

Cardiff City 0-3 Tottenham
