Carlo Ancelotti Sacked An Hour After Guiding Napoli To UCL Last-16

World renowned manager, Carlo Ancelotti has been relived of his duties at Napoli, just hours after guiding the Serie A side to the knockout round of the Champions League.

Napoli made this announcement precisely an hour after exercising a 4-0 home win over Genk, their first win in as many as nine games across all competitions.

A statement by the club read:

“SSC Napoli has decided to revoke the role of first-team coach from Mr Carlo Ancelotti.

“The rapport of friendship, admiration and reciprocal respect between the club, its president (Aurelio De Laurentiis) and Carlo Ancelotti remain intact.”

Sky Italy reports that AC Milan legend and former boss, Gennaro Gattuso is the likeliest to fill the vacant position and is poised to sign a provisional six-month deal.

It is also suggested that Napoli has made enquiries about Lazio gaffer Simone Inzaghi, who has guided the club to third spot on the Serie A standings.

However, Inzaghi is thought to be pleased with happenings at Lazio and wouldn’t bulge or give in to go anywhere else. He is however thought to be interested in a Premier League move in the long run.

Chelsea boss, Frank Lampard has thrown his weight around the classic manager heralded for his Champions League exploits. The Blues boss said Ancelotti is good enough to manage any club whatsoever.

Speaking just after a 2-1 win over Lille, Lampard was quizzed on whether he could foresee a return to the Premier League for the former Chelsea manager.

The English gaffer said: “I’ve got huge respect for him. I’m sorry to hear that [he has been sacked].

“I know it has been a tough situation for him lately. I saw his interview before the game and it was typically classy in what seemed like a tough time for him. He’s always handled himself brilliantly.

“I think he can manage anywhere in the world at the top level, of course.”
