Cavani Confirms Heated Exchange With Messi

Edinson Cavani has confirmed Messi’s confrontation amid claims that he challenged the Barcelona talisman to a fight.

Both superstars were involved in a heated argument in Argentina’s 2-2 draw against Uruguay in Tel Aviv. Both players were on target for their respective national sides.

With Uruguay ahead at the time, thanks to a goal from Cavani, Messi reacted furiously to a foul from midfielder, Matias Vecino.

Following a confrontation, Ole reported that Cavani had asked Messi if he wanted to fight. “Do you want to fight?”, he said, to which Messi responded to  “Whenever you want, whenever you want.”

Both players were eventually separated by Cavani’s Uruguay teammate, Suarez who also plays alongside Messi at the Catalan capital.

When asked about the issue, the Paris Saint Germain star confirmed that there was a clash. However, he downplayed the severity of the match, giving it off as one of the intricacies of football.

“Yes, that’s football,” he told reporters. “That’s what the Clasico matches [between Argentina and Uruguay] are like. That’s football.”

Argentina went on to equalize Cavani’s goal through Sergio Aguero’s header. However, they were pegged back once more by a Luiz Suarez freekick.

Messi then had the last laugh when he converted from the penalty spot, only few minutes away from the final whistle, effectively sharing the spoils.

That late equalizer extended Argentina unbeaten run in the fixture with Uruguay’s last win coming in the World Cup qualifying back in 2013.

In fact, Cavani’s winning goal in that game was the last the PSG forward had scored prior to their game in Tel Aviv.

Strike partners at Uruguay, Suarez and Cavani are currently facing uncertain fixtures at their respective clubs.

Cavani’s contract at the French capital is running out and he is widely expected to make a switch to MLS David Beckham’s Inter Miami said to be interested in buying him.

There’s a large cloud hovering over Suarez future at Barcelona as well, as talks about his replacement keep gaining volume each day.
