CCT to continue trial of Justice Walter Onnoghen on Feb 4

– Code of Conduct Tribunal CCT has re-fixed the 4th of February to continue the trial of suspended Justice Walter Onnoghen

– This comes after the Court of Appeal rejected justice Walter Onnoghen petition to stop the trial

According to a new report, the Code of Conduct Tribunal CCT will continue with the trial of suspended Chief Judge of Nigeria CJN,  Justice Walter Onnoghen.

The report made it known that the trial will continue on Monday, 4th of Feb., 2019.

This comes after the Code of Conduct Tribunal through it Chairman, Umar Danladi had put the trial on hold indefinitely based on an order from the Court of Appeal.

According to the report, the suspended CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen had submitted a petition to the Court of Appeal to stop the CCT from going on with the trial.

However, the Court of Appeal in it statement has refused to grant the request of Justice Onnoghen and has informed him to go and face his trial.

Justice Walter Onnoghen has been charged with the fraudulent declaration of assets which is against the law.

He was suspended by the Federal Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, 25th of January.

The FG had stated that Justice Walter Onnoghen was suspended based on an order from the Code of Conduct Tribunal CCT.

In his place, Pres. Muhammadu Buhari had gone ahead to swear in Justice Mohammed Tanko as the acting CJN.

The Federal Government has reiterated that Justice Walter Onnoghen was not removed according to some misconception from some quarters but he was only suspended so that he can face the charges level against him and if he is cleared he would return to his post.
