Chelsea Agree Permanent Deal For Kovacic In Spite Of Transfer Ban

Mateo Kovacic is set to continue at the Stamford Bridge after a transfer sum was agreed between Chelsea and Real Madrid to make his loan move permanent.

The London Blues will have to part with a fee of £40.3 million ($51m/€45m) to secure Mateo Kovacic’s long-term future at the club.

Chelsea have waited until the final minutes to finalise a deal for the midfielder as the deadline to complete a deal was previously earmarked for June 30, but can now prepare for serious contract talks.

This comes just after Championship club, Derby County granted manager, Frank Lampard permission to speak with Chelsea board on the possibility of filling the vacant manager’s role with the Chelsea legend hugely expected to replace Maurizio Sarri as manager at Stamford Bridge.

In spite of FIFA’s two year imposed transfer ban on signing senior players at the club, Chelsea can still get him on a permanent basis thanks to already having registration documents from his loan spell at the club last season.

The transfer sanctions should remain in place after the Blies decided against appealing for provisional measures to Court Arbitration of Sport (CAS) to freeze the ban.

Sarri brought Kovacic to the Stamford Bridge on loan from Spanish giants, Real Madrid but the departure of the Italian gaffer for Juventus has cast shadows over his future at the club

Luckily for Chelsea, Kovacic was also keen to remain at the Bridge and would now ease up pressure on incoming manager especially with Ruben Loftus-Cheek set to miss the start of next season due to a ruptured Achilles tendon.

Madrid on the other hand have been keen to let off some players in order to release funds having secured the services of five players including €100m on Chelsea talisman, Eden Hazard this transfer window.

They have also shown interest in signing Paul Pogba with Neymar also on the list of cards for them as they plan a massive rebuilding at the club.
