Chelsea Can Sign Players Once Again In January

Chelsea have now had their transfer ban halved after an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sports.

After the appeal, the court decided to reduce the transfer ban such that the Blues can now make new signings at the January transfer window.

CAS found Chelsea guilty of breaching two of its regulations as regarding player transfers. In particular, they were accused of bringing in U18s and ‘third-party influence’ but “for a significantly smaller number of players (about 1/3 of the violations found by FIFA)”.

The London Blues were handed a two-window transfer ban in February by FIFA, one for which their appeal was rejected in April.

The London club have already served the first window of their ban but an appeal to CAS sometimes last month has seen their punishment reduced.

In spite of the transfer ban slammed on them, Chelsea were able to bring on Matteo Kovacic for £40m because of a loophole in FIFA regulations which didn’t stop the transfer from going through as the Blues already held his registration after his season-long loan from the previous season.

Chelsea have been able to turn things around under the stead of Frank Lampard despite losing their star player, Eden Hazard to Real Madrid.

The Blues have been incredible this term, even as club legend, Lampard chose to turn to young players with the ban punishment heavy on them.

Most notably is Tammy Abraham who Lampard chose to stick with over the likes of Giroud or Batshuayi. The academy graduate has been phenomenal in the Blue shirt this term, along with midfielder, Mason Mount and centre-back, Tomori.

They are currently placed fourth on the Premier League standings and will be further buoyed by their ability to sign once again in January.

Their monetary fine has also been halved from £460,000 to £230,000.
