Chelsea Gut Tottenham To Record Important Win [Highlights]

A goalkeeping gaffe by Hugo Lloris was enough to give Chelsea a brilliant win over Tottenham at the Bridge. Maurizio Sarri sent a message across to Chelsea players after dropping the world’s most expensive goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga to the bench but the Italian gaffer received a reprieve and wonderful response from his side regardless.

Before now, the under-pressure coach would have thought himself bundled out of the team by the next morning, but a win and most importantly one against third-placed Tottenham could inevitably buy him some more time.

Worryingly for Tottenham, they failed to register a shot on target and considering that Mauricio Pochettino had questioned the mentality of his players in their most recent loss to Burnley, things don’t smell good for the Lilywhites at the moment.

Their closest shot to make that mark must have been one taken by Son Heung-Min in the first forty-five minutes when his 25-yard drive from Harry Winks flew over Caballero’s fingertips and rattled the crossbar.

Pochettino wouldn’t have wanted that first half to end considering their dominance at the time, little did he know what that miss could spell for them in the second forty-five.

Chelsea kicked off the second half on the front foot with Gonzalo Higuain slicing a shot past Lloris only to be stopped by the upright.

They were soon enough rewarded for all their hardwork when Spanish midfielder, Pedro found some space in-between Ben Davies and Alderweireld to shoot low past Lloris with Azpilicueta turning provider when he picked out Pedro on the right flank.

Chelsea were in charge and there was no turning back. Meanwhile, in the heat of all the euphoria, Hazard came off for Willain. A substitution which Sarri would have been crucified for only few matches away went that way with the fans backing the Italian gaffer all the way.

It was a terrific atmosphere at the Bridge, one neither Kane nor Pochettino had answers to. Interestingly for home fans, they got another when a misunderstanding between Trippier and Lloris meant that they had gone two goals up to earn an important win and stake their place in the race for Champions League football.

Chelsea 2-0 Tottenham it ended.
