Chelsea Held To Frustrating Draw By Brighton

Chelsea got off to their away encounter at Brighton and Hove Albion on the front foot, finding the net as early as the tenth minute through full-back Cesar Azpilicueta.

However, the hosts pegged back the London Blues with an 86th minute goal through goal-shy winger Alireza Jahanbakhsh.

The Iran winger only scored his first goal for Brighton in their last outing and has now added another to his goal tally.

Alireza stunned Frank Lamaprd and his men with an overhead kick to give the Seagulls a hard-fought draw on their New Year’s outing.

Chelsea looked to be running away with their third victory on the road after only ten minutes as Azpiculueta registered his name on the scoresheet. They were however unproductive in the final third since then. Despite that, they still looked comfortable at the back and were on course to run away with a 1-0 victory.

However, Alireza leapt into a stunning overhead volley with six minutes on the clock left to play, sharing the spoils with Chelsea.

The West Londoners had a bright start, one in sharp contrast with their recent outing against Arsenal and soon led through their proactive captain.

Tammy Abraham sent a low drive shot towards the goal from a corner but it was blocked by Aaron Mooy in front of the goal line. Azpilicueta latched onto the loose ball and sent it past the grounded and helpless Matt Ryan.
