Chelsea Stretch Gap to Six Points

Chelsea has stretched their gap atop the Premier League to six points after their 1-0 victory away to Sunderland.

Chelsea are proving to be the toughest test for many a Premier League team this season. The Blues have now gone 10 games without dropping a single point.

After closest rival, Arsenal had dropped all three points at Everton on Tuesday, Chelsea had the opportunity of going six points clear at the top of the Premier League if they could pick all three points against David Moyes’s Sunderland – the Blues didn’t disappoint.

In a chilly night at the Stadium of Light, Chelsea came out smoking, having all the possesion and looking the most likely to score, but they just couldn’t break a compact Sunderland defence.

Sunderland had a few chances, with Adnan Januzaj blazing wide for the host, but the Black cats were more focused at keeping Chelsea at bay than scoring.

The deadlock was finally broken when Cesc Fabregas curled in a beauty from Willian’s cut back. That goal was to be the only goal of the game. Diego Costa, Pedro and Willian, all came close to extending Chelsea’s lead but their efforts came to naught.

Thibaut Coutois produced the save of the night to deny Patrick Van-Anholt (a former Chelsea player) from drawing level for Sunderland at the death.

In the end it was Chelsea who return home with all 3-points and a 10-game unbeaten run in the Premier League kept alive.

Next up for Chelsea is Stoke City, who managed a 0-0 draw with Southampton.
