Chelsea Sweep Arsenal Under The Carpet With Hazard Masterclass

Chelsea swept Arsenal under the carpet with an exceptional Europa league final performance with Hazard the leader of the onslaught.

A drab first half was soon forgotten as Chelsea roused themselves to run riot, slicing through an helpless Arsenal’s defence back and forth like they were never present in their first place.

It was Hazard who had put Arsenal to the sword after a spectacular second-half performance. The Belgian had promised that his last game with the London Blues would end with a glittering trophy and he did deliver that. Could this be his last game?

It was Giroud who got the first goal for Chelsea diving in ahead of Laurent Koscielny to meet Emerson Palmieri’s whipped pass with his header nestling inside Cech’s near post.

Edging towards the hour-mark, Jorginho slipped Hazard free down the left, the Belgian squaring for Pedro whose side-foot finish was eased beyond the exposed Cech.

Panic and pressure began to set in for Arsenal and Maitland-Niles succumbed to that pressure consequently barging Giroud to the ground with Eden Hazard slotting the ball into the net from the penalty spot.

If there were any hopes of Arsenal staging a comeback like what transpired between Liverpool and Barcelona or Ajax and Tottenham, Eden Hazard had snuffed out every hope of that happening with the fourth of the night and a consolation goal by Alex Iwobi wouldn’t help matters in anyway for Arsenal.

The Gunners squandered chance after chance in the final third and paid dearly for it. After falling behind, they poured forward in their numbers but fell to Chelsea’s dreadful counter-attacks.

It was a wonderful victory for Chelsea and Sarri can now enjoy his smokes, something he hadn’t done for a long while since his departure from Napoli.

It was contrasting emotions on either sides of the touchline. While Sarri smiling from the corner of his mouth was delighted with the fact that he broke his duck with a major trophy, Emery on the other hand was licking his wounds as his side’s loss means they won’t be participating in the Champions League come next season.
