Church Member Allegedly Defrauds Former Pastor of N9 Million

The Police, today, arraigned a 39-year-old businessman identified as Obiora Okosi, for allegedly defrauding his former Pastor of over N9 million, at a Gudu Upper Area court, sitting in Abuja.

The defendant, who lives at No. 89 Limka Rd., Nkpor, Anambra State, is being tried on a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating.

The defendant, Obiora Okosi, had defrauded his former pastor of N9 million in Abuja for land which was worth about N12 million as convinced by Obiora.

However, after N9 million was paid by Elijah, the General Overseer of Grace Prophetic Ministry, Obiora Okosi, fled with the money with no communication made to Elijah at all.

The prosecutor identified as Blessing Igale, informed the court that one David Elijah of 3rd Avenue, Gwarimpa, Abuja, reported the case at Police Force Headquarters, Abuja in December 2018.

Blessing Igale, the prosecutor, alleged that the defendant, Obiora Okosi,  had previously convinced Elijah, the General Overseer of Grace Prophetic Ministry, Awka, to purchase a plot of land located in the FCT for N12 million.

The prosecutor, Blessing Igale informed the court that the complainant had paid the defendant N9 million for the land but that all efforts made to recover the land or return the money were not successful at all.

In addition, the prosecutor further alleged that rather than the defendant, Obiora Okosi, to refund the money, the defendant resorted to threatening the life of the complainant.

Blessing Igale, the prosecutor stated that the offences contravened the provisions of sections 311 and 321 of the Penal Code in the Nigerian constitution.

The defendant, Obiora Okosi, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge brought before him.

The Judge identified as Bello Rufai, however, granted the defendant, Obiora Okosi, bail in the sum of N1million with a surety in like sum.

The Judge, Bello Rufai adjourned the case until Jan. 29, 2019, for hearing.
