Coronavirus: All Contact of Index Complete Follow Up Period And Are Free To Rejoin Society – Health Minister

The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire has announced that all contacts with the first case of COVID19 in Nigeria have completed their follow up period.

They have been therefore certified free to rejoin society.

The Minister announced this during a press conference in Abuja. He also announced that the second confirmed case who was a contact of the index case has now tested negative twice for the virus. He has therefore been cleared of the virus is allowed to go home.

He also informed the journalists that the index case’s health situation is improving. He added that his medical team has advised that further tests be carried out early next week to guide the decision to discharge him.

Speaking further, the minister who pointed out that the World Health Organisation has now declared COVID19 as a pandemic, said it is a call for action for increased resources to quickly detect and control the outbreak.

“It is not a time for fear and panic. We are investing resources to strengthen Nigeria’s response”, he added.

The 44-year-old Italian who arrived from Turkey is still battling the virus as his test returned positive.
