Coronavirus: Former United Midfielder Fellaini Tests Positive

Former Manchester United midfielder, Marouane Fellaini is the first Chinese Super League Player to be tested positive for Coronavirus.

According to a local health department, the Belgian tested positive in the Chinese province of Jinan.

The former United and Everton player who now plies his trade in China with Shandong Luneng arrived testing in Jinan on March 20 when the test was taken.

The 32-year-old is the first player in the league to test positive to the virus, even after the League was suspended indefinitely like most other leagues across the world.

Fellaini made the announcement on Twitter on Sunday morning where he wrote:

 “Dear friends, I have been tested for coronavirus and my test result is positive.

“Thanks to the fans, medical staff and the club for their care and attention. I will follow the treatment and hope to return to the game as soon as possible. Please everyone stay safe.”

Although the Coronavirus pandemic started out in  China. However, several reports suggest that there has been a drastic decrease in the number of confirmed cases in the country while other countries continue to struggle in their battles against the virus.

Fellaini switched to  Shandong in 2019, helping the Chinese outift to a fifth-place finish on the League standings after notching 13 goals across all competitions.

As the Coronavirus pandemic ravages several countries across the globe, football isn’t spared as a number of players and managers test positive to the virus.

Former Real Madrid president, Sanz tested positive to the virus and passed away shortly after. Juventus star, Paolo Dybala also joined a list of growing players who have been confirmed to test positive to COVID-19.

“Hi everyone, I just wanted to inform you that we have received the results for the Covid-19 test and both Oriana and I have tested positive,” the Argentine posted on Twitter.

“Luckily we are in perfect condition. Thanks for your messages.”
