Coronavirus: Garay And Four Others At Valencia Test Positive

Laliga club, Valencia are the first Spanish top-flight side to announce Coronavirus cases among their first team squad. The Los Ches announced that five of their players including Garay and members of staff have tested positive to Coronavirus.

The number of people who tested positive to the virus at Mestalla includes Argentine defender Ezequiel Garay.

The defender who was poised to miss out through the remainder of the season after going under the knife  on a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament last month, made this known via a post in Instagram. He however, via that post revealed he was feeling well.

The Spanish top-flight are currently on a two-werl break on all fixtures. The Spanish government likewise are enforcing a 15-day national lockdown beginning from Monday in the fight against the spread of coronavirus.

In his social media post, Garay wrote:

“It is clear I have started 2020 badly.

“I have tested positive for coronavirus but feel very well. Now it only remains to pay attention to the health authorities and, for now, be isolated.”

Valencia via their club website also revealed that four more people have tested positive to the virus. The official statement by the club read:

“Valencia CF inform that five positive cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus have been detected amongst first-team staff and players.

“All of these persons are now at home, in good health and obeying self-isolation measures.

“Besides the information that will be provided over the coming hours, the club reiterates our support for the health authorities and their social awareness campaigns, and emphasise to all of the population the importance of staying at home and continuing to follow the previously published hygiene and illness-prevention measures.”

Garay who’s currently self-isolating has featured 17times for Valencia in the League this season while also appearing four times in the Champions League.
